Okay! This book had me hooked! Where book one left me feeling..."meh" for the majority of the story as it got in gear, this book grabbed me from the beginning and held me down. Violet is back, but she's learning the hard way that Angel World is not what she thought it'd be. Mother is the Queen and man is she, one sadistic queen! Mother dearest wants Violet to be like her, but that's not really what Violet wants. But when given a sword that belongs to another, a little game of truth or dare becomes something more because her life is on the line...one way or the other. The longer that Violet stays in Angel World the darker she sees the angels to be. After a battle with the Fallen (vampires), her mother commands that she takes part in the warrior trials. Being half angel and half vampire, has she been condemned to die? Because should she fail, that is what will happen and her two friends will be forever lost. Looks like Violet is going to have to get geared up to take on a big bad situation. Vampire Princess by Rosemary A Johns is book two in her Rebel Angels series and I have to say I'm over the moon for this book. It captured my attention from the beginning and kept me riveted to the end. I see Violet evolving as a character. She has her moments, but I like that she questions and rebels. She tries to be helpful, even if it backfires more than a few times on her. I like the fact that she doesn't roll over for anyone. I really grow to like Violet's character in this book. I love how she cares for the younger angels and that she does what she can to try and keep them safe. The dynamics of this story are truly engaging. There is only one moment that I have to complain about in this book and it's one with Violet and another "broken" angel. I was disappointed in her that she doesn't step up for him. She knows that the angel who steps up to claim him intends to hurt him deeply. I wanted her to put herself aside for a moment with her morality and to take him. I'm disappointed when she turns her back on him. He deserved better than that. I truly enjoyed this book, and I am eagerly looking forward to the next book in this series. If you read the first book and enjoyed it then I highly recommend this book to you. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars.
Rosemary Johns is the queen when it comes to writing vampire books and now vampire and angels. It does not matter how many books she writes in a series, every new book just gets better and better. She has such great story lines, strong characters and an amazing writing style. What she really brings into a book is her imagination. How she comes up with plots and story lines like she does is just amazing. And every book is so believable and such a great book to read. In this 2nd book you get everything good, evil, love, hate, angels, vampires and action packed until the last page. When I get one of her books I know it will be a long night because I can not put them down until I finish the book. In this book Violet found out her mother is the poisonous Queen of Angel world. Then she finds out she will have to rule as a corrupted princess. She can try to escape but can she? With all the powers she has is it even possible? When Violet meets a harem boy who is also an angel he pulls her into a dark and twisted sport. Can she get out ? you all know how powerful she is. Can her geeky vampire and her Angel get out? Can she free them all? The war, can she stop it? Will anyone survive? I won't give anything away. You will have to get this book and see how all this turns out. You won't be sorry, Rosemary Johns has written another jaw dropping, heart stopping on the edge of your seat book!!!!!!! An absolute must read and I highly recommend this book. I absolutely loved this book.....
Oh Rosemary A. Johns has done it again. She followed up Vampire Huntress with what I believe is an even better sequel. That is not easy to do. In Vampire Princess, we continue the journey along with Violet, the daughter that both the vampire and angel worlds desire!!! She finds out that her mom is a villainous and evil Queen. But to add insult to injury, Violet must now serve as a princess by her mother's side or risk the lives of those she holds dear. Rosemary A. Johns gives us more of the vivid vampire/angel world that she has created in such beautiful detail with stunning, feisty and downright brutal characters. I am in love with the geek...have to admit it! Violet faces trials and choices that have her questioning herself and the world around her. Such a fantastic heroine whom I'd love to meet someday!!!
Violet is in angel world at the hands of her queen mother, forced to act as princess. Rebel and Ash are locked away and hurting. Half angel, half vampire, she's still searching for exactly where she fits in. Her mother is a tyrant, she's abusive and controlling and Violet wants nothing to do with it. But she needs to learn to play her mother's game if she wants to survive and get out of here to find her sister. I've always said how much I love Johns writing style as it's beautifully unique. Her books are so much more than just vampire books or angel books as there is nothing typical about her characters. Violet is a strong character, and I enjoyed her moments of naivety in a world she's only just come to know. The entire world that she has created is engaging and imaginative, the characters, deep. This was my most favorite of Johns' books to date.
I loved book 1, Vampire Huntress, and now here's book 2, Vampire Princess. I loved it even more. Violet finds out that her mother is the Queen of Angel World. You would think Angel World would be heavenly, but you would be mistaken. She is forced to make a choice between ruling as a corrupted princess or risking a perilous escape. Violet is drawn into trails that even her powers may not be enough to get her through. She cannot refuse or She will lose both the angel and vampire she loves. Join Violet on her adventure and see what choices she makes.
I received this book as a gift and am voluntarily leaving a review...Violet, half angel-half vampire! She goes to the world where her mother is Queen and expects Violet to become just like her – EVIL! Violet has other plans that do not coincide with her evil mother’s. Her life is on the line after receiving another’s sword and a deadly game ensues. In Angel World, she discovers the “Angels” are not the “good” angels she was led to believe. She does her best to protect the younger ones…but if she does not try out for the warrior trials (after a battle with the Fallen)…what will happen to her friends? What will occur if she loses? Will she survive? Find out in the epic second book and be prepared for an even better read!!!!
Heroine Violet has never known anything except the vampire kingdom she's grown up in, with her sister Jade and friends Ash and Rebel, who've been kidnapped by the Angels, (who are definitely not cute/fluffy/benevolent/always nice beings). The street kids are the enticement to get Violet into the Angel world and Violet would do anything to save them from becoming slaves to the Court nobles.
So what do you do, when you've been raised as a vampire and suddenly get lured into a world where your long-lost Mom turns out to be the evil Queen of the twisted Angel world you're now in? You pretend to be just like her until you work out how to escape and save your pals too, before the epic civil war battle between Angels and Vampires breaks out the next morning, of course!
Rosemary A Johns' fantasy paranormal coming-of-age series Rebel Angels, of which Vampire Princess is no 2, is almost a manual for how to cope with the realities of adult relationships and trust and maturity issues in teen to YA youngsters. I can definitely recommend it to fans of Labryinth and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Buy the first two books today and get ready for book 3 - you'll love it!
Violet continues her search for Jade and the "disappeared kids of Hackney." She is tricked into Angel World by someone she trusted, Drake, to become like her mother , the Matriarch, Queen of Angels. Her mission is to make Violet as evil as herself. She nearly succeeds, but Violet fights it when Ash, Rebel, and Haman become part of the stakes. Full of action and twists, with a great plot and characters. I received a complimentary copy and freely give my honest review.
I love how Rosemary writes. Violet is a prisoner in the Angel realm. She finally gets an audience with the Queen and discovers the Queen is her mother and a very cruel queen. The queen gives her 7 days to prove herself worthy or the Queen will kill her. What with not knowing who to trust and staying alive Violet manages with her snarky attitude. I look forward to the next book and Violet girl you need to keep your smart mouth and attitude, your powers and your inner voice close as I think it'll be another bumpy road.
Violet has been tricked into going to Angel World. After growing up in the human world abandoned and alone, she's finally found her mother, who just happens to be the Queen of Angels. But being princess isn't all it's cracked up to be. Violet must find out who and what she really wants to be before all is lost.
“And now it was time to fly. Away from perfection. Above it. Because I was the rebel princess.”
Johns’ world building is clearly well thought out and extremely inventive. The main characters I've grown to love and hate from the first installment are back with a new cast. The lies and treachery keep you guessing throughout.
I've found, after reading all, or most of Johns’ work, her writing style at first was hard to put into words except extraordinary. But I've finally found a way to sort of describe it. Yes there's some British slang that's really fun as an American to see the cultural differences. She also has a uniqueness that far surpasses Anne Rice because I find it to be poetic. She doesn't just spell it out for you. You have to interpret what's being said with the context of what's happening in the story. It's so very impressive! I am left thinking about her tales long after I've finished reading them. Award winning material here folks! Highly recommended!
