We received a defective set, but the seller made it right & the material is gloriously soft.
April 22, 2018
I’m a long time user of Pure Beech sheets, I bought half a dozen sets from bed bath and beyond about 10 years ago, and they’ve held up all this time. Recently, though, a couple pairs have gotten threadbare and developed small holes. It meant I was back to sheet shopping, which stinks. I ordered this set as part of my endeavor to find new sets I liked, since the Pure Beech sets have declined in quality drastically since I last purchased.
Upon opening this set, I was really excited. They have more of a sheen to them than the pure beech sheets did, but that doesn’t bother me. They’re really soft, right out of the box, which most sheets aren’t. They’re many times softer than the 800 thread count Egyptian cotton set I ordered for double the price of these (I paid $45 for these). They felt almost as soft as the well-worn pure beech sets. They felt cool to the touch, which is important for me. The color was as expected. The seams all seemed well secured, and I didn’t find any significant loose threads. I washed them exactly as instructed on the label and excitedly went to make the bed. Imagine my disappointment when the fitted sheet barely covered my 15 inch mattress. And by barely, I mean that even when I’d fussed with it for 10 minutes to get it fitted as best as possible, the sheet still pulls up in the middle of each side and shows the bare mattress underneath. I added the top sheet, and it barely covers the mattress as well. The pillowcases seem a smidgen small as well, but they fit our pillows fine. The envelope is deep, and secure.
I really, really *really* wanted to give these 5 stars, because the material is so close to my beloved, holy grail pure beech sheets. But I just couldn’t, because the seller has fibbed so egregiously about the size of the sheets. Perhaps I got a defective set, but I’m not confident enough in that to want to try again.
Edit: the sheets were also very snagged after the first wash, even following the washing instructions perfectly.
Edit 2: I was contacted by the seller promptly and explained the issue with the sheets. They were pleasant and issued me a refund, saying that the snags were likely due to a defective set. I’m adding one star for their good customer service. I would suggest that they offer “deep mattress” versions of the sheets. I’d be willing to try another set if I knew they would fit my mattress properly.
Edit 10/29/18: we’ve used the sheets frequently for months now. Although they do tend to slide off much more easily and have developed numerous small snags (since the set we received was apparently defective), they’ve held up. The snags that existed after the first wash haven’t grown very much with repeated use and only a few new ones have shown up. The material has gotten even more silky smooth and wonderful feeling through multiple washes, and without the wonky fit & snags it would be our absolute favorite sheet set. We are planning to buy another set at some point, in hopes of getting a set that isn’t defective.
