1.0 out of 5 starsDumb....just...so dumb.

I don't mind "dumb" so much when certain criteria are met. I like Michael Bay movies, and they are mostly unrealistic to the extreme, for instance. I also can't define what exactly turns me off to some movies, I just start holding stupidity against a movie when it all adds up to a certain level. When the military is portrayed as being so stupid a third grader would roll their eyes, that qualifies. This movie qualifies. When apache helicopters engage the monster from about 50 feet away, waiting to get swatted out of the air, I call B.S. When the hero crawls into the crashed copter and, completely stationary, uses the missiles to knock down the creature (because, I guess the pilot forgot he had them) I start feeling like I'm being insulted. Then when the army fires every .556 round the soldiers can carry at giant monsters and that doesn't work, the top military strategists all stand around wringing their hands in worry with no idea what to do...until one of them comes up with the plan to drop a MOAB into the center of Chicago....well I realize somebody IS insulting me. That's 10 minutes. Expand that into the entire last half of this waste of time and both my wife and I were rolling our eyes and considering hoping not to lose too many IQ points before the end. First time I've ever felt sorry for Dwayne Johnson, and he has had some cringe worthy lines in several movies not known for their great dialogue.
