To understand Russia's present, you must understand its' past. It's 1993 and Russia is at a crossroads after the fall of the Soviet Union. The past is being dredged up, literally, and the Russian people must confront the ghosts of their past while they stand at the precipice of democracy. In a series of interviews, we are shown the perspectives of multiple Russians and how they feel about Czar Nicholas and his family, their legacy, their deaths, and the future of their bones. The intersection of business, religion, identity, and science in 1990s Russia gives us a glimpse into the Russia of today. This documentary is a time capsule and well worth the watch.
