I suppose I expected too much. If you are just using these paddles for fun in the garage, they are okay. If you want to improve at all, get a better brand.
The control and speed on these are bad! Spin is good. Two of my blades (or sponges) are warped ( I can see the curve) which I'm sure is part of the problem with the control. Two of the 4 paddles weighted 10 grams more than the others (174g vs 184g). The glue smelled pretty bad for 3-4 weeks and it is still slight. I'm not sure about all of the good reviews but that was not my experience. They are a fair value for the rec room (if not damaged), but I can't recommend for anything more.
I have played with the paddles for a few days, great. Major complaint is the smell. When I first peeled off the plastic, the chemical smell I inhaled was *dizzling*. Extremely unpleasant. Now several days passed, the smell when you are close to the paddle is still strong. It doesn’t go away. I’m a little concerned for the kids to hold them.
This is a very nice set given the low price and I would most certainly recommend this to those who play for fun. However, if you are looking for a paddle that would allow you to do spins - avoid this one. The paddle looses its spin ability after one game, I guess because of the rubber pad is not of right quality. I played with several different paddles and this one is by far the worst one.
My son and I were playing earlier today, and his paddle broke during a normal swing. We've had the set for 3 months, and we play sporadically. Up until now, the paddles and balls have both played well.
Initially paddles seemed pretty nice. After few weeks of playing I have one paddle with a loose handle and one that the handle snapped off from the paddle. Basically I guess you get what you pay for. I’m getting ready to order new paddles from a different company. Hopefully I have better luck.
Because of so many good reviews, I have decided to purchase this racket... I think they are pretty much well built, the reason why I give just two stars is because once they arrived, they smelled terrible. As soon as I opened the package, I had to leave all the rackets outside because of this certain smell. I left them out for two days straight and they still smell bad.. I don’t know if it smells really like this bad or just mine only... disappointed that I couldn’t use them right away...
Upon arrival, 3 of the 4 paddle rubber around the paddles were somewhat damaged, peeled off, and irregularities. Also, the thin film on the rubber was really hard to peel it off. Also, after remove the film, rubber got really sticky attracted all the dust and sticker to the rubber make the paddle really inefficient. (less spins on the ball, slippery surface..etc.) One of the paddle have very rough surface and when my younger son was playing with it, small splinter got on him. After that he got scared and not touching the paddles. Hope they have a better Q/A. Definitely good value and better than Joola 4 sets. Also, I like their ping pong balls. Hope I can buy them separately and also make orange balls will be nice.
These seemed sturdy enough when I received them, though I did note that the adhesive on the paddles seemed light around the paddle edges. I have had them for 2 months, and 3 of the 4 paddles have broken. I have replaced them with another brand (Penn), which seem to be of much higher quality. I've included a picture of a broken paddle, as I feel it exemplifies the (poor) quality of these paddles.
