I think I like these...

I normally wear a size 9.5 or 10, but based on other reviews, I ordered a size 9 and they fit well. I was a little worried they would be too small because I was in a Merrell store this afternoon trying on shoes and some 9.5 fit but others were too small. So I’m really not sure what’s going on with this show—if it’s because it’s mesh and not something more structured or what, but it definitely runs large. The mesh part feels nice right out of the box. There’s also plenty of cushioning in the heel. I have a narrow heel but tend to need a wider toe box so I wear wide width shoes a lot of the time. That said, these (medium width) have plenty of room through the toe box. I have flat feet and usually either wear orthotics (in my sneakers, dress boots, etc.) or I wear brands like Vionic because they’re made with an orthotic foot bed. Bottom line is that I need plenty of arch support. When these arrived, I switched right from my running shoes with Power Step insoles to these and I noticed the arch support right away. That’s actually what I’m unsure about. The arch support is ample, but it’s very stiff and seems to have a steeper contour than I’m used to. I think these actually have more support than my orthotics. That said, they almost remind me of how Vionics and other ortho shoes feel when you first start wearing them, and it helps to ease your way into them, wearing them for short periods of time while your feet get used to the increased support. My Vionics have consistently been some of the best shoes I’ve ever worn for my flat feet, so I’m hopeful these will end up feeling the same way. My goal is to update this review after I’ve worn them enough to know if I’m going to love them. I like them, and I really want to love them—the style is adorable and appropriate both for my work setting and for casual wear. I guess we’ll see!
