iSmart kind of stinks, otherwise this is good
October 18, 2018
Update after 8 months of ownership: 1 of 2 USB ports has died. Plugging an iPhone into the top port does nothing, but the bottom port still charges iPhones at full speed. I now use a 12v splitter with a second no-name adapter for my second device.
Original review: I bought this to run two devices- one is an iPhone and the other is a cell phone booster that is powered from a USB port. The cell phone booster needs roughly 2a to function at its best, and since this has two ports that each provide 2.1a I figured I would be in good shape. Nope.
The problem is that iSmart limits the current to things that it isn’t familiar with. So my booster gets less than 2.1a and doesn’t work as well as when I have it plugged into a no-name 2.1a charger. For me, it’s a matter of being able to make a call or not, and with this charger- I can not. I’ve similarly also had problems when trying to charge big battery packs from this- they don’t seem to charge as fast as they did from the dumb charger.
It charges the iPhone fine though, and would probably charge iPads fine too (haven’t tried it with iPad).
So buy this if you only plan to charge phones/tablets, but not if you need to power other stuff too.
