Amazon.com: Customer reviews: Yoga Strong: Power Yoga For Weight Loss, Mobility, Lean Muscles, And Renewed Energy For Total Body Transformation. A Complete Conditioning Program With Separate Workouts For The Upper, Lower, and Total Body
I've only had this DVD set for a couple of weeks, but I had to share a review as a newcomer to this type of yoga. I've been using the Yoga Studio app for about four months, and I love it, but was looking for a different approach. I am using Level One and it is a workout! I am female so the upper body is probably the toughest for me but all the workouts are challenging. Dean is straightforward and no-frills but a fantastic instructor. He does talk a lot but it's all relevant to how each movement/pose affects your body and why it is part of the workout. The music is just enough to enhance but not distract from the practice. In spite of how tough some of the moves are (for me anyway!) Dean is not intimidating and stresses modifications if you need them. I can already feel the difference even just going for a walk or using the Yoga Studio app- I've improved on certain poses that used to be a lot harder, like Half Moon and Reverse Warrior. About me: I am in my mid-forties, used to jog and do weights all the time. Injuries and stress sidelined me from my workout routine for a good 2-3 years, but I started exercising regularly again at the beginning of the year (yoga, walking, spinning but mostly yoga). I am finally starting to feel a bit more in shape and Yoga Strong has helped in that immensely. Update 5/31: I have also tried a couple of the Level 2 workouts, which build on the same ones in Level One. They are definitely hard but doable! Last night I was actually able to hold both a revolved half moon pose and a single extended leg balance pose, neither of which I had been able to hold more than a few seconds previously. I should add that I haven't changed my diet nor have I been doing much else to exercise except yoga, either Yoga Strong or my app, so I definitely have to credit Yoga Strong for the improvements.
I have been lifting weights for over 15 years. As a weightlifter I have struggled with flexibility and mobility. I know that I have needed to invest time into some type of flexibility training but I have been apprehensive about joining a yoga class because frankly, I suck at it... and it’s embarassing. Yoga Strong has been incredibly helpful to my entire fitness program and quality of life: 1.) No embarrassing public yoga classes where I feel like a creep for being the only guy there and being the worst performer in the room. 2.). Yoga Strong provides a program I can actually stick to. I perform the program right in my living room on Sunday afternoons! 3.) Last but not least, ever since I have integrated this into my training program I have been able to perform personal bests on all of the major lifts I have been plateauing on for years: squat, bench, deadlift, and overhead press!
I have the yoga boost video as well. I really like Dean's style. He does talk a lot but it's really about instruction for him, and helping us get the pose correctly. He makes no ifs ands or buts about it- this is yoga for people who aren't super stretchy flexible folks. I've enjoyed this dvd set. There are workouts designed for upper, lower and total body. Each type has three different levels to help you progress. I cannot speak for you but I can say that as someone who isn't very flexible, and has had issues with chronic back and neck pain, I've really enjoyed Dean and his yoga workouts! Give it a shot!
As a Chiropractor and considering form and posture, I have been following Dean for going on 2 years and it is a great program for form and fitness.
As a runner, I also have seen more power in my runs as well as a feeling of better posture. As I body sense I am aware of the new strengths thru out my entire muscle system, this is an amazing program for anyone who wants to improve overall, as well as an ACE to add to your routine. Enjoy it as I do and you will see a huge difference in your overall health and strength. Happy workouts, and it is not necessarily work it is FUN.
Another great set of workouts from Body by Yoga & Man Flow Yoga’s Dean Pohlman! I’ve been waiting for this DVD release and bought one for me, and one for each of my college age children. I had a sneak peak at these workouts through manflowyoga.com (not just for men...focused on anyone interested in improving their fitness) and they are a great addition to my daily workout routine. Three main workouts; lower body, upper body, and total body; each at 3 levels; (1) beginner, (2) intermediate and (3) advanced. Dean’s focus is on strength, stability, flexibility and improved fitness. Each pose and movement has a specific and measurable goal to improve your overall fitness; there is no wasted effort.
As a runner, Dean’s workouts improved my form, strength, and flexibility to add more joy to my runs. Yoga has been a key exercise to keep me on the running trail and important to my recovery after a challenging race or injury.
I’ve experimented with many fitness video programs and Body by Yoga DVDs and Man Flow Yoga programs are the only ones I’ve used on a daily basis. Dean’s on screen persona is very personal and natural. You actually feel the instruction and encouragement is just for you. I’m regularly amazed is can demonstrate poses while calming speaking while I’m focused on a new and difficult challenge. He personal fitness and self discipline is an inspirational role model for those aspiring to improve or maintain their own fitness and improved quality of life.
I hadn’t tried yoga until trying a Body by Yoga program, and now yoga is an integral part of my daily life routine. Yoga Strong is good starting point if you’ve been interested in yoga, but never found a good starting point.
I've used many different yoga videos over the past 10 years from simple to complex. These have become my new favorites because I can really feel results. Other yoga DVDs are relaxing and offer good flexibility, but I often walked away wishing they would more effectively affect my overall health and strength. These DVDs do just that. I can feel a distinct difference in how I stand, sit, walk and my overall fitness level after doing these routines. Dean incorporates yoga poses into very real and practical exercises that help to increase effectiveness of the practice. Some very small modifications to traditional yoga poses are offered in these DVDs which have made all the difference to me. Each routine is about 20-30 minutes long, good for my busy schedule, while still having a positive impact. There are 3 DVDs in this set each with an increasing level of competency. I'm still working on the beginning DVD and am finding value. Can't wait to comfortably work my way up the more advanced DVDs.
I am a 55 year old female who has been doing yoga for years. Based on the reviews I ordered it, and I am glad I did. He gives excellent information on how to do the poses. It is functional strength with flexibility and I have noticed better posture and my shoulders feel limber and stronger. Listening to his cues, I find I totally focus on what my body is doing and how to tweak it. I also do Seane Corn's yoga dvds... I feel this helps add to them .
Found an older Body By Yoga on Amazon Prime and enjoyed it so much I decided to purchase this new dvd for ease of use. I've been following Dean on Instagram and he's motivated me, your typical average guy, to add yoga into my current kettlebell workouts.
I'll update as I work through this over the next few months but based on two workouts already, I HIGHLY recommend.
There are three dvds included, one for levels 1-3 based on your current skill level. Level 1 is what I'm working through now and I really enjoyed it.
My only complaint is the title music is LOUD but the volume during the workout is very low. This required me to turn the volume high during the workout but then once the title menu screen came up again, I nearly woke up all of Texas. It's no issue, just something to be aware of.
LOVE this yoga practice/video. The teacher is knowledgeable not just about yoga but overall fitness, flexibility, and strength building. His style/voice is pleasant yet firm and straightforward, which makes it easy to want to do this yoga practice often. It's like he's your best buddy who happens to also be lean, strong, and fit, yet encouraging with a knack for teaching. There's no frill, no pretension, no distracting music or setting, no perfect yoga guru attitude, no reciting the formal names of positions. But it brings you the most important elements of traditional yoga, including reminders to breathe and making the mindful connection between strength, balance, flexibility and movement. As the teacher says, it's one thing to build strength and to have muscles, but it's another to be able to move them in a balanced, fluid way. It's so that your muscle tone is not just for "show," it's for "go," too. And the results are amazing! My husband and I look forward to this practice 2-3x per week and we feel stronger and more limber from head to toe! Highly recommend!
Took a chance on this one based on Amazon's recommendation, and am pleasantly surprised by how much I'm enjoying using this as a morning workout...a few days per week.
Since I typically do advanced yoga, advanced Pilates and really high-impact workouts, I started with and have only done the Level 3 workouts of this (my favorite being the Total Body one which is just under 40 minutes). The top selling point is the amount of time you hold each pose - there is no rushing through the poses so you actually feel as if you are challenging your body and getting a proper stretch in.
The setting is simple, the music (which is at the perfect volume) is quite pleasant and the instructor is thorough and has a nice voice. I would definitely buy another product featuring this instructor. Overall, this one is a keeper.
