Linux warning: Chipset quirks make this VERY slow.
April 6, 2018
On windows, this works fine (in my limited test time of a few hours.)
On Linux...there be dragons...fat and slow dragons riding around on rascals. You see, the Linux kernel has identified a quirk in the chipset that prevents it from playing nice. For starters, it blacklists the uefi driver, so it uses the usb-storage driver. Then it looks like there's some quirk in the chipset that limits read speeds to 500KB/s! Yes, half a MB, and that's reading from the drive's buffer! Writes are fast (120MB/s sequential. On a WD black 7200RPM drive) So I do NOT recommended this if you intend to use it for Linux. Do your chipset research, I hear enclosures with ASMedia chipsets do well on Linux.
