Fictionalized accounting of 3 amazing women
July 7, 2017
This is a good movie that I watched with my kids, hoping to teach them something of that era (and strong women!) I made the mistake of initially taking everything in it as fact when, actually, a lot of the details were spun, Hollywood-style. I read an article stating Katherine Johnson never confronted her boss regarding a strand of pearls. That was pure Hollywood fiction but it's fairly pivotal to the story. There WERE bathrooms that she could utilize in the building, she didn't need to run out of the building, through the rain to find a bathroom that wasn't "whites only" etc. These women are/were highly intelligent, strong, awe-inspiring women who accomplished something amazing while also battling horrid discrimination (both for being female and for being black.) Honestly, their story doesn't need any embellishment. I highly recommend this movie but when viewing it remember, like anything that comes out of Hollywood, some of the details are made up.
