I found this to be a perfect solution for my 12 string

I use many different tuners for my instruments. I found this to be a perfect solution for my 12 string. In a nutshell, 12 strings require more tuning and it is very convenient to have this semi-permanently installed in the soundhole. It gives you the performance of an onboard preamp tuner, but it removable. Lastly, it is very accurate and compares favorably to my expensive Peterson strobe tuners. I am considering buying a few more for my other instruments. The previous negative review regarding reference tuning is not relevant, in my estimation. Very few people need to tune to such a low reference frequency. And, since the unit it is chromatic, it provide semi tones inherently.

Poorly made, NS Micro Clip-on tuners are better!

Unbelievable, the tab that holds the tuner in place broke off while I was placing it in the sound hole. This tuner is made of is extremely fragile plastic. I bought this about three weeks ago and there's no mention of a guarantee or warranty, so I guess I'm out fifteen bucks. I almost ordered two more, glad I didn't. I bought this tuner for two reasons; 1. The D'Addario brand, and 2. I really liked the idea of a tuner in the sound hole of the guitar instead of the headstock where I usually place them, also it's easier to see and practically hidden from outside view. On the other hand, I have more than six D'Addario NS Micro Clip-On Tuners which up till now have worked great. I have only had to change batteries after a lot of use on three acoustic and five electric guitars. These are much better in quality and although they cannot be installed in the sound hole of your acoustic guitar, you will not be frustrated and disappointed on making a money losing purchase on a very poorly made D'Addario NS Micro Sound Hole Tuner. For these NS Micro Clip-On Tuners I paid $23.24 for a two pack back in April of this year and later in July $19.75 for the same two pack. Presently the two pack is available for $18.99 (Amazon) that's $9.50 each! You cannot go wrong with these. D'Addario NS Micro Clip-On Tuner, 2 pack

I bought the D'Addario NS Micro Sound Hole Tuner, hoping sound hole placement would be both convenient and stealthy. The tuner display and functions are similar to the NS Clip-on but with a clip optimized for sound holes. Like the headstock clip-on variant, you can leave it installed without worrying about it falling off or breaking.
It’s powered by an exposed button cell so try not to sweat or spill beer on it! The NS seems delicate but is unlikely to suffer trauma since it’s inside the guitar. Installation is easy: simply side the clip onto the edge of the sound hole. Line it up carefully as it’s probably tough getting it out of the guitar should it fall in! Its easy to turn on with a left hand finger and easier to see than a headstock tuner. I also tried to install it in my tenor ukulele and that wasn't a good idea. After great struggle I got it mounted but then the sound hole is so small it was almost impossible to hit the on/off button with my finger. So out it came.
Clipped on a Jose Ramirez classical guitar, I found it more responsive than the NS headstock Clip-on. However, I was getting misreads from the A-string: E instead of A. When I stopped the A-string from ringing, the NS displayed the ringing E harmonic from the low E! When I used my palm to mute the other open strings, there were no misreads. So apparently the NS is really sensitive as ringing harmonics set it off. No biggie once I found the workaround.
All in all I loved the stealth and convenience of this small tuner. And the sound hole LCD is the most natural and easy to read place for a tuner.

I'm picky about tuners. I've used a lot of them and previously preferred the Snark SN-8. This tuner has all the Snark's advantages (fast but stable response, accuracy, and a display that isn't distracting on stage in the dark) with the extra benefit of being even more unobtrusive, resting snugly in the sound hole. I don't like leaving the Snark on my classical all the time just because it looks clunky on the headstock (plus it's crowded up there with the capo.) This one I plan to leave in place most of the time. Yeah, the guitar is hand made in Grenada, but it was a bit knocked about before I got it, and it's a player not a museum piece so I'll risk the varnish.
Based on the reviews about the clip breaking, I'll be gentle when putting it on and taking it off.
I have not tried this on a stage with loud electric instruments. My guess is that a headstock tuner would be less susceptible to stage noise. Generally in this case I'd be using a guitar pickup anyway (ugh), and so I'd use a tuner on the signal path. The guitar I'd use with an electric band has a built-in tuner on the pickup, so it's moot.

This tuner is very inconspicuous in my concert ukulele. I have used two of the micro clip on NS tuner with our guitars and loved the performance for about a year. When I got a uke, I needed a dedicated tuner since I don't always play the instruments at the same time. I thought this may be better scaled with the smaller instrument and as good as the micro. I'm definitely not disappointed. It is easy for me to see, yet mostly Indetectable to others. The display is bright, which will help in low lighting. It's weight is negligible, but inside the instrument, it doesn't affect the balance as a headstock tuner might. It is easy to use, not confusing at all. I hope it holds up at the clip part and lasts.
ETA: two weeks and it's going strong. I ordered a second for a sopranino uke!
ETA2: clip still great a month in, while this tuner works well, I have noticed that if I'm percussive in my playing, or the uke gets tipped over while in it's case, that thi tuner slips off the lip of the sound hole and down into the body of my ukulele. I would not recommend for a child for this reason.

July 6, 2016After only a day of use I ordered 2 more so I now have one on each guitar on my guitar tree. Can't speak to battery life. No more hassle of getting a tuner out of the case and attaching it to your guitar and then re-casing it or keeping the ugly thing on your headstock where it is easily knocked off. I am an aggressive player with pick marks all over the tops of my guitars in areas even the pick guard can't protect. This little thing sticks on like you glued it there.
I have been playing for 43 years. If you are an experienced player you know tuners only get you close and you need to rely on your ears and years of playing to best be in tune up and down the neck. This you or I can do if we are at home alone in a quiet place but in a crowd of other musicians honestly you must rely on more than your ears and that is why we buy tuners. This thing is as accurate and any other tuners I have owned including those costing 50-100 dollars. As long as you have one steady green bar on either side of the string note you are tuning you are pretty much spot on!
I think maybe because it actually sits in the sound hole there is less fluctuation on and off center tuning than most tuners on each of the 6 strings with the exception possibly of the B string. And tell me honestly, that string seems to be a problem with most tuners and the players ear. Fifths to me seem so much easier to tune by ear than the fourth between the B and the G or E. If for some reason I find battery life a problem I will come back and ament this review

Best 'leave in' tuner I have ever used. I have read the 3 year old reviews. I cannot say that the Manufacturer has responded to the many complaints. Nothing on their site mentions the problem with the plastic clip or refers to any improvement. So I waited for a month of hard use to find out for myself. I have been playing Open Mics up and down the California coast for over 40 years. I am a very emotional and physical performer. I am all over the stage...jumping and rocking to the music. This tuner lives in my Taylor and has proved to be flawless. The easiest to read of all my tuners....including Peterson Strobes. I am sure that if I was heavy handed and tried to pry the tuner out...the tab would break. But installed properly and left alone....This little unit is a lifesaver. Headstock clipons wont go in the gig bag. Behind the stock interfere with my ability to easily reach the actual tuning key. I won't go back to other tuners. This little jewel makes me happy every time I use it.

It's smaller than I thought it would be which is GREAT. Uses a simple CR2032 battery, of which it shipped with one.
Simply sits in the sound hole, foam keeps it in place. Super nice not to have to clip it on the head stock, or have a tuner that you have to put on/take off, forget to take off, smash with your case, or leave behind somewhere.
Needs to NOT be touching any internal bracing, I didn't get good results when it was, but moving it just a bit and it works as expected. I'll add these to ALL my acoustics that don't have a tuner in them already. It's simply too convenient.
Non-marring, not permanent, easy to remove. Photos are tuner used in my Larrivee Parlor Guitar.

I've got these for every one of my four acoustics, and while it's possible there's a better tuner, these are great.
The great:
Can just stay clipped in place at all times, no snagging.
Will store a Hz value for chromatic tuning.
Seem to be very accurate.
Natural to see if you normally play seated.
The not as good:
Easy to drop in soundhole during installation
battery has no cover (but you can't see it.)

I just keep it stuck in the sound hole. Even after carrying around, it stays put. Better than my clamp on that has to come off every time I put it in the case. I have forward shifted bracing so I had to move it to just the right spot to avoid buzzing when it touches one of the braces, but one I placed it, it stayed in that spot. It uses a common lithium battery which is good for both cost, battery life, and no leaking. Easy to read. You can tell how in tune each string is by the color and the number of bars that appear to the left or right if the string letter (AEDGBE). Just as accurate as my other tuners.

Awesome little tuner that you can hardly see! I love my Micro tuners that go on the headstock, but they kept getting in the way with my case so I tried this little guy. Glad I did, it’s really awesome! Works just as good as the NS Micro headstock tuner, but slips into the sound hole and only shows itself to the player. From the front, the 1/2 dime size clip is the only give away to others that there is a tuner there. Well made, fits securely, not annoying buzzing or issues with it installed. Definitely recommend!!!
