Vendor lacks integrity. CARD NOT ACTIVATED - BE CAREFUL!!!

There was a mix up on the first order placed for the Red Lobster gift card that I'd purchased for my Mother. Ordered 2, sent 1.
3 days later after the 1st card was delivered I contacted the vendor who apologized for the inconvenience and expedited another delivery of 2 cards (instead of simply sending the 2nd card). Anyway, the 2 cards arrived on the same day. No worries.
So I explicitly asked how to go about the return of the first card and was informed not to worry about it and that she could simply keep the initial card. Wow, wasn't expecting that but okay. Told my mother Happy Mother's day and she was ecstatic!
Several "months" later, my mother takes a trip out of town with friends relying on the Red Lobster gift card and is embarrassed during the check out being told that she cannot use the card because it wasn't activated.
What a nice gesture on behalf of the vendor, right? Instead of simply telling me to trash the card because it is no good and save her the embarrassment of trying to use a worthless card after dining out with friends; I'm led to believe that the card was a kind gesture of apology for the mix up.
Obviously, mine was an isolated scenario; but just keep it in mind before considering your purchase. Incidences can be rightfully isolated; but integrity isn't.
Also, looking at reviews of others also getting unactivated cards; now I'm not certain if they intentionally didn't activate the card or not. Either way though, bad business and a problem with this vendor. Feeling lucky? Go for it.
