These Are Okay but There May Be a Better Alternative...
May 23, 2018
You know these type of containers. If you're like me, you've thrown out hundreds from Chinese food take out and all those other good restaurants we have since shirked since taking these containers for another purpose: prepackaged meal portions for a healthy life. The size is good, they have no odor, they do not absorb food smells, and the lid fits and secures: unfortunately too well.
Today after working out I wanted to get something on my stomach so I pulled out my lime cilantro chicken with broccoli and sweet potatoes (Google, er Search (Sorry Amazon, LOL!): How to Meal Prep - Chicken (7 Meals/Under $5) | How To Meal Prep | A Sweet Pea Chef) from my refrigerator. As I was removing the lid to put it in the microwave, there was a loud pop and then a tink. It was an edge of the container flying to the floor. This was a new container, first meal and never been in the microwave yet. The good news, there was an extra container enclosed in my order so I still have the amount of containers that I initially expected. Now these things will meet their intended purpose with the caveat, they will probably not stand up to long term use.
While I was waiting for these to be delivered, I may have actually found an alternative. Rubbermaid meal trays with lids, a pack of three with lids for 2 USD from the store that has survived all others, and it rhymes with Ball Cart. These come in the single space 4 cup and the 3.7 cup two space container and for 5 packs of three, or 15, it'd only be 10 USD. The biggest difference is the edges, they are rounded and the lids match so they are not snap tight but more press fit.
Finally, my wife used both yesterday and if either, the Fitpacker or the Rubbermaid, would have given her ANY problems, I would have no doubt heard about it. Was my occurrence a fluke? Time will tell. I will use both Fitpacker and Rubbermaid to see which will stand up.
Good luck to all of you trying to get your diet and lives straight with prepackaged portioned meals. Stay strong, you can do it!
