It was directed by Billy Wilder. It starred Audrey Hepburn, Gary Cooper, and Maurice Chevalier. What else can I say? This is a film about a May - December romance that is witty, charming, humorous, and cute. Everything about this movie just clicks. The Blu-ray Disc is very good. The picture quality and the audio are both perfect. Warner Archive Collection doesn't mess around. Their Blu-ray Discs are always top-notch as is this BD.
An ADORABLE, very young Audrey Hepburn with (a little too old) Gary Cooper, and the always charming Maurice Chevalier in a playful, entertaining, film, Written & Directed by the incomparable Billy Wilder. A truly delightful film! It will make you laugh and cry, it's just a great old movie!
Even if this is an old movie, it is still one of my favorites…. Audrey Hepburn is excellent and beautiful with an eternal beauty beyond what she looks like physically. She has a grace that no other has…. and a sincerity that touches the heart. Her father is my second favorite actor in this… if only every father could love a daughter as he does, with sensitivity, grace, intelligence, giving her the freedom and discipline together as only real love can…. I long to see more movies that carry a depth of feeling and are not violent or negative. This one is very sweet.
Our retirement community needs subtitles on its movies and I am always pleased when the product description is accurate, which this was. Nice movie, residents very happy. Packed well so no cracks in the plastic.
Audrey Hepburn and Gary Cooper make an unlikely pair for a lot of reasons in this film but that does not stop the relationship from working. It sizzles.
Audrey is a young Parisian girl, the daughter of a private investigator played by Maurice Chevalier. She is young, beautiful, innocent and plays the cello and is a bit bored. She treats herself to adventure by reading the case files of her father. A good proportion of these case files involve the character played by Gary Cooper. He is a rich American playboy who is always got women. Often, these women are married.
Cooper is the single largest source of income for Chevalier and Chevalier cannot help be admire his style. Having gypsy musicians on call to serenade the mark day and night is just one example.
When Hepburn learns that an outraged husband plans to kill Cooper, she secretly goes to warn the lovers. In doing so, she falls for Cooper herself and manages to arouse his interest. She knows that any sort of clinging will just turn him off so she tries to play his own strategy against him. She plays the mysterious playgirl with more beaux than she can count. She will not even give him her name.
The strategy works. Cooper falls for her in a big way but still she remains silent. In desperation, Cooper hires a private investigator to learn more about her. Naturally, this would be her father.
Things do not work out as expected but they do work out well. Hepburn portrays beauty and innocence and not a little female cunning. She is a delight to behold. So are Cooper's fits of uncertainty. Chevalier lends the whole episode a degree of class and dignity. It's a first fate story all around.
This movie is a beautiful classic about young love. I watched first as a tween and felt horrible. After my high school romance soured, I watched it and it broke my heart even more. As an adult, I think it's still timeless, however I felt a very different reaction. If you are a person of faith or not, it really speaks to the basic values of love and relationships. I'm tired of people living together for years and years. It's my opinion and it may not be very reasonable. Living with one foot out-the-door is a balancing act that most fail at. Watch the movie and form your own opinion, respectfully. Love is messy and sometimes very wonderful. Even both.
I just love this movie!!! Audrey and Gary at the top of their game. Great chemistry and delightful romance! Maurice Chevalier shows his true acting talent as well. All win!
This is a movie I have always loved......I ordered it thinking it was a CD and found that I oreded it on the cloud.....When I went to play it the picture did not fit the screen and the voice was completely off.....Amazaon gave me my money back and I reorded the disk.....again the CD has chineese script, very disappointing........Please note that the movie itself is what I love. If I could only see it the way it and all movies are seem........r
Well, Audrey Hepburn is as usual her adorable self, Maurice Chevalier is great, but I am not so sure that this is Gary Cooper's best role; seeing that this is a movie and a story then it all makes sense, but the age difference is, well it is what it is. I did enjoy the movie and would recommend it to anyone who is an Audrey Hepburn fan
