This is not my first experience with Cable Matters. But it is with their XLR Microphone Cables. I've only been disappointed with them once: Cable Matters Gold Plated DVI-D Cable 10 Feet, but not terribly so. You can read my review there. I was surprised at the gauge of these microphone cables themselves compared with others I've used in the past. These are a well-made, durable, and very high quality product. It certainly feels that way, holding them in the hand! The 2-Pack is great. Nice lengths too: I bought the 35 feet pair. Looks like I might be replacing some of our old cables with new ones from Cable Matters.
Good quality mic cable for the price. The cable has a thick rubber jacket that is flexible and the inner wires are good quality, all copper conductors, at least 20 guage. The cable has an all copper braided shield with drain wire and the XLR connectors appeared to have been well soldered. The XLR connectors on the cables I received did not match the ones in the picture, but they were all black in color and they were still high quality with gold pins. Overall I am pleased with these cables.
These are still new to me but as a first impression they work well and seem very well made. The best feature and its fairly unique and the reason I picked these is they offer a 35" size. I'm finding that 25' seems to be universally just 1 to 5 foot too short at least half the time on a small stage. The 25" usually are not laying on the ground all the way from the mixer to the mic stand causing tripping, knocked over stands and damaged cords. 50' are always leaving a big pile of wire casing a tangle mess, still a tripping hazard and taking more time to pack up plus may cause signal loss. The cables jackets are quite thick heavy and durable feeling. I checked a few of the solder joints and they looked well connected.. The ends are very tight fitting into my Mics and sound equipment with good strain relief. I agree that the wire is not 16ga. Looks more 22ga to me too. But that is typical for a good mic cable. The heaviness of the jacket seems to let them lie flatter on the floor. Assuming you dont wind them up in a tiny ball like it comes from the factory. Do yourself a favor and straighten them out and uncurl them. Then reloop in a big easy 16 to 20 " loop with a velcro or twist tie. I'll try to update as longevity will be the true test.
I had two monster XLR cables that i use as patch cables go bad on after 5 years of use. I ordered these as replacements for the monster cables and am very impressed. They are thick but very flexible. I will be ordering more of these to use for patch cables and as backups for my Hosa mic cables.
Just got these dropped off to me about a minute ago. Quality is great, even fits extremely nice into my EV speakers. 4 stars because the picture shows them being a silver color with gold on them. For some reason, mine that came are all black?! I don't get it. Did they change how they are made? Hoping I got the product that is in the picture....
