Revised Review, Recipe Needs to Change
January 19, 2017
Below was my original review many months back. Since then I have formed a different observation of this food. While the ingredients are top notch and the lack of fillers and starches is great, the amount of pre and pro biotics is excessive. To the point that it causes digestive upset no matter how much/little you feed. It's a shame because I had hoped that it would work out for my dog. But even my cats had the same response to the food. They loved the taste but it went right thru them. Wysong needs to change the amount of pre and pro biotic, it's simply too much. Hope they get the hint. I am now trying Dr Elsey's Clean Protein dry cat food ordered thru Chewy. Same concept as the Epigen90 only less pro and pre biopics. More expensive but hoping no more digestive issues. Gave 2 stars for quality of ingredients, hope they go back to the drawing board and fix the problem.
Original Review: There are many differing opinions, reviews of this dog food. I decided to try it and see for myself. So far, I really like it and so does my dog. What appealed to me was that it is starch/carb free, no extra fillers. I lost a dog to lymphoma in 2015 and I learned that carbs/starch feed the cancer cells. "Grain Free" is NOT carb/starch free! For my current dog I had tried other high end dry foods but he would eventually stick his nose up at it. Not this food. He loves it! Now some reviews have said their dog had digestive issues on this food. The key with this food is to VERY gradually introduce it, I'm talking a tablespoon at a time, mixed into their regular food over the course of a month. If you give too much too soon then you will see digestive upset. The enzyme, probiotics and prebiotic combo in this food will cause a gut bacterial backlash if you rush it (sigh, I made this mistake because he wanted more). So don't rush it. It is expensive, but there are no fillers/excess stuff they don't need and they eat less of this than most other dog foods. I use this food to supplement my dogs meat diet. The only drawback is you need to order it online, no one carries it in a pet store.
