The setup instructions are basically AWFUL. It took hours of research to discover what is missing from the install instructions.
They want "unformatted" drives, that's pretty easy. I use Windows and an external Drive Caddy, run CMD prompt, then run DISKPART that loads a program to list drives. Then LIST DISK and you get a listing of drives. If you turn on the external Caddy power, and do LIST DISK again, it will be obvious which disk just got found. Then SELECT DISK n where n is the number shown next to the DISK you want to Clean. Then type CLEAN and all partitions removed from the drive and no drive letter is assigned, etc. Now put ALL 4 drives in the LS0441DE, Hook up to a network, then push the power button. I also tried holding the Function button while turning on the Power, waiting 3 seconds, un-press the function button while the white LEDs blink, then push the Function button again, both LEDS blink white for a while, and in my case, eventually I saw the RED LED lit, which means the system is NOT formatted, and is in EM (Engineering Mode).
Now for the fun. Unpack the latest firmware and in the file where you find LSUPDATER I had to open the LSUPDATER.INI and change the last two entries from
VersionCheck = 1
NoFormatting = 1
NoFormatting = 0
Prior to this, the system did not behave at all.
