I read a Kindle book last week that totally sucked. I was certain that self-publishing on Kindle was the gateway to rip-offs. But I decided to give it another try. This eBook was highly recommended by someone that gives a lot of bad reviews. I not only liked it, I loved it. The book was interesting, funny and serious. It made sense. It was packed with very good tips and techniques throughout the book and unlike the one I would burn if I could, it was focused on writing a high quality eBook, not just how to get more money for doing next to nothing. I'll be reading more of Michael Rogan's books. Call me a fan.
This book really has motivated me to take the leap to write my own book. I learned so much about the do's and dont's (which I would have inevitably made) in writing a nonfiction book. Rogan is hilarious and made what could be a dull topic, engaging and memorable. I'm quite sure I will come back to it as a reference as a pursue my own adventure and longtime dream .
The only thing he did wrong is forget to warn perspective readers that they won't come away from this book without plans to write their own book. Now my only question is to start book planning and outlining now or binge read his other books?
This is really a great little guide - packed with practical information. The writer's enthusiasm is infectious, and I found it really inspirational. I loved the humor (and since I'm a grown-up and live in the real world, the "vulgarity" some speak of didn't bother me - in fact it adds to the humorous tone). I could easily read it through again, just for the laughs. It occurred to me as I read it, that this is an author that I would like to know - a friendly, smart, self-effacing sort. At any rate, I'm going to take a look at this other titles.
Wow! I bought this in audio and listened to it three times. It was so helpful, I bought it in print, and I followed the instructions as though it were a primer. Guess what? I finished my first non-fiction book over summer break, and now I'm working my way through another of Rogan's books, "Kindle Publishing Made Stupidly Easy" to take me to the next level. I'm not easily impressed, but this book was easy, fast, and BS-free. It motivated me and gave me the confidence to know I could do it, too. It also gave me tips on how to do it successfully. If it helped me, I'm sure it will help you, too.
OK, I truly enjoyed this book. I got the audio version with the kindle edition for times when I wanted to see a reference point in the written version. Some complained about the language but I found the straight forward approach refreshing. So many other books are full of history, and homages to the profession that they get boring fast. I never found this book boring and am very appreciative of that. There are many writing styles and this is just one. This book is fast, full of information, lacks the filler material and gives you the info you need. So keep it coming.
This is a great book ,well written with a huge amount of useful information. There is soooo much nonsense being published by self publishers out to make a quick buck. It gives me a huge amount of pleasure to give another 5 star review. Well earned by someone who makes money from kindle publishing. I recommend that all would be self publishers read this book
The author really delivers on his title's promise. I've never underlined a book more heavily. Michael has a fun, irreverent writing style that makes for an enjoyable read, while simultaneously sharing a wealth of practical information.
I'm using his guidance in crafting my own first nonfiction book and stealing -- I mean borrowing -- as many of his proven ideas as possible!
His writing style was conversational and easy to follow. The book was laid out in a format that was easy to follow. Each chapter had a specific call to action at the end. Broke things down in a way that makes organizing a new book easy.
His method is probably best suited to non-fiction works.
Gotta give Michael Rogan credit. He walks the talk and literally produced a book that not only doesn't suck, but is a pleasure to read and is an excellent resource I continue to refer to. Well done, Sir!
OMG The most clear, informative, practical, easy to understand --- and interesting guide for successful book writing and marketing that I've ever read. Anyone who is even thinking about having a successful book writing venture absolutely a must read. I have it on my tablet, in print, and on audio to be able to review the information and track my progress again and again. Thank you Michael for this very valuable resource....and for the inspirational video on your website!
