This is your standard Brita filter. It is nothing special, but is large in size if that's what you are looking for. You cannot really pour water until the filtering area is mostly empty, otherwise that water seeps out from this area. The filter needs to be replaced more frequently than I would like, which is why I subtracted a star.
This is my third BRITA pitcher. I LOVE THEM! But I'm very disappointed in this new one I just bought. Two issues! Very disappointing. The filter change indicator, which flips up to add water to begin the filtering process, does not stay attached. Grrrrrrr. The second problem is the spout to pour the filtered water into a container. It is not a stream, but a flood. I have to fill my water bottles in the sink AND lose at least a whole bottle full of filtered water when doing this several times. When filling my coffeepot, water goes all over the counter and on the floor. I know I could refill the reservoir in the sink, too, but since I've never had this issue before, I forget when I refill the water reservoir. Ugh. I have written to the company and hope they send me a new one. Heck, I could take my hubby out for a nice dinner with how much these things cost. So. So. So. Disappointing. I've LOVED the others and they were perfect!
We wanted a replacement for our older Brita as the timer was dead. We were disappointed when after putting it together the lid doesn't stay put. As others have noted, when you hold the pitcher by the handle with your thumb on the edge of the lid, it pops up. Seems so cheap. Can't believe a major company like Brita let this get by their quality control. I found that it has to do with the filter sticking up. Even pushing the filter down with some force leaves the top sticking up too far. Thus the tube connected to the lid hits the filter and the lid doesn't sit flush and pops up. I'm returning mine and looking at another brand.
Hello, Michael. Thank you for reaching out to us. We're sorry to hear that the lid of your Brita Grand pitcher doesn't stay in place. We wouldn't expect this, as this pitcher was designed to have a locking lid. So we can make this right, please give us a call at 800-24BRITA and mention this reference number: 180409-001470. We hope to hear from you soon! Mel from the Brita team
Hello there. Thanks for giving our Grand pitcher. We're sorry to hear of your experience, and we're happy to help. The black specks you see are particles of activated carbon and are not harmful. It is normal for carbon particles to appear in your first fillings but re-soaking the filter, completely submerged in a tall glass of cold water, for 15 minutes, then holding it for 1-2 minutes under cold running tap water is often enough to minimize this. The particles also may be minimized by ensuring that water does not run into the reservoir with full force, and that the incoming water is generally directed away from the filter. We hope you find this information helpful. For further assistance, please reach out to us at 800-24BRITA and provide this reference number: 181018-000370. We look forward to assisting you. Kai from the Brita team
Same issue as other reviews. The lid does not stay together because of defective manufacturing. I've owned Brita pitchers for years and this is hands down the cheapest version (of the same product) that I've ever bought. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.
I just tried buying the same item at a local box store and that pitcher had the same problem. Very poor quality control at best.

I have had several Brita pitchers in the past which have worked great, however, about a month after I received this one, I noticed it had a slow leak when I would leave it on my counter. Under closer inspection, I realized there was a small hairline crack in the bottom/side that was allowing the water to seep out. The pitcher has NEVER been dropped or mishandled and the crack appears to be a manufacturing defect. Very disappointed in this poor quality and wondering if Brita has lowered their manufacturing standards to a point where the product is no longer a good fit for my household.

This thing drives me nuts. The flip-up lid always falls off. The green part just feels cheap in general. If you get even a little bit of water anywhere but in the reservoir, it leaks out around the handle and pour spout every time you pour water. I would have returned it, but threw away the packaging. My first Brita was so nice, I didn’t think I’d have such a problem with the second.
