Does it have to be so broody?

I used to adore Showtime and HBO, but since trying Acorn, BritBox and Netflix as results of the Pandemic, the world is our TV oyster. Not sure we'll ever go back. Really no reason to go with Showtime anymore. TV is supposed to offer an escape. Showtime isn't one at present.
It feels like slogging through the purgatory of very things you are totally bereft about all day. Most of the content is depressing. I've always preferred UK programming to American TV, so the others have exactly what I want to watch, The movie selection's better and there is always something for what ever you are any mood for, and you not waiting for something to drop week per week. If you like a show, you can binge 7 seasons of it, again is some thing I prefer, to waiting for next week's episode and forgotten what the plot was in between, as it's so complex. And you have the best of programming form all over the globe and some of dubbed in a way that is not annoying.
It's not that their programming isn't well done, and though provoking, it is. It's just combined with a Trump presidency, a pandemic, mass shootings, citizens being murdered in the streets and their bedrooms, and what's happening to the planet environmentally, I would rather be watching something that does not reflect the sorry state of the world at the end of the day.
Additionally, I think a lot of their programming starts off strong and then just gets ridiculous, like the end of the Affair. The majority of movies that are not new that they have in the sitting collection, are things your rating in the 3 to 4 range. So I'm finding my bliss elsewhere, where if I want to watch a thriller, there are 20 to choose from on Netflix, great history programing, and delightful Australian series on Acorn, or my grand delight, UK detective series and period pieces and British comedies. I want to see something that is different from my everyday reality, that's relaxing and less graphically violent and broody.
