Federal IRS taxes, State IRS taxes, an AUDIT included
January 14, 2014
Intuit turbo tax has been selling this software for last 20 years. And, I have been using it for just as long. The price can be a little cheaper, now that millions are using it, but whatever. The real value of this software comes in year two, year three, etc. Because the software IMPORTS your prior year information, and populates the data elements into this year, it really does get better year after year. You may want to chance and buy the DELUXE version. That is good enough for 99% people. The PREMIER version has too many bells and whistles and not enough user defined control elements.
The state filing is also easy, because that too gets transferred data from prior entries. You must select a STATE upon loading the software onto your laptop or desktop computer. Please, please, please ... follow the directions and questions before hitting the YES or NO button. You could cause an error if you press the wrong button. Remember, you can redo at any step. And this saves you so much time in recalculating numbers.
So, I am no longer a victim to errors, mistakes, poor data entry, and other stupid calculation errors because the software comes with ability to GO BACK and re-do steps, and then again at the very end, with a personal AUDIT check. That is your personal audit check (do not get scared, because it is just) on your laptop computer where the program is running, telling you -- hey, you made an error. Once you fix the errors, you can resubmit for another audit check. No extra charge. When everything passes, your tax returns are in compliance to be submitted.
If you prefer to bring your taxes to an accountant, you will probably still want to check against this software. I have been using this software for many years. And, on occasions provided intuit with my feedback. One of which was to allow users to REPRINT the form from a PDF output file. That feedback was back in 1996 or so. And, they did. Turbo tax has a PDF file output of your tax return pages, with forms and everything. You just need to sign it. Cool. Also, that PDF file can be saved on your backup disk and kept in your desk drawer for 10 years. How cool is that? You never know if Uncle Sam or Auntie Sammie wants you to prove prior returns.
Are you with me??
