If you wanna launch battlefield 3, be prepared to sit and watch origin load, then load up your game library (which for many people only has a few items in it, let's not kid ourselves and pretend it's steam and we will have lots of products in it), then launch the origin web plugin (which is kind of like a facebook feed for the 10 or so friends you might randomly collect in this game), then finally search for a server that fits your needs, then launch a small applet while the game loads, and FINALLY get to enjoy your game.... maybe. You see, hackers are rampant in this game, bad attitudes are rampanter (is that a word? just go with it), and there's no built in speech communication (which makes most teams act with the tactical precision of a schnauzer). Oh, and EA likes to release little add-ons like the "3D Map" that cost money AND contribute to your performance in the game. $60 is no longer enough money to make on a game that I only received a digital copy of and play at your whim, you need $9 more or someone on a balcony will be able to see me on their map while remaining invisible to me. Cool.
I love the Battlefield series so these obstacles and annoyances have been upsetting. It's still battlefield, it's still a really well made game, it is hamstrung by Origin and EAs weak anti-hacker measures.
