Impressions....of being in an elevator
Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2019
I am a Chris Botti fan and while I like the fact that he is difficult to categorize, this is probably his second-worst album (after A Thousand Kisses Deep). In his continuous effort to do something different, he seems to have taken a wrong turn into a geriatric ward. Several of the songs seems written to sooth the rattled nerves of elderly listeners for whom Air Supply is a little too tense. Chris's playing is great, as always, but much of the accompanying smaltz posing as music is beneath him.
Granted, my disappointment might be at least partly shaded by my heavy listening of his excellent album Italia. If you haven't yet, you need to check it out.
