Warm and Pure
Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2015
Ave Maria was actually called 'Ellens dritter Gesang' or 'Ellen's Third Song' as part of 7 songs that Franz Schubert wrote in 1825 from Walter Scott's epic poem 'Lady of the Lake'. The remaining 6 were not as fortunate to stand the trial of time. And when you hear this piano piece, you understand why this one did. Pure, unobstructed, perhaps a bit weak on some of the stairs and corners, but always warm. There is no dearth of Ave Maria recordings on Amazon itself, and surely more so in the rest of the world. It would be unfair to compare this one with others without doing the impossible job of listening to all of them. But, do not let your mind divert to those thoughts when you listen to this. A beauty like this does not need to be described, only appreciated.
