This music is beautiful and inspiring. I cannot believe how much I truly love this music. I listened to this album 30-40 times in the first week. The subject, Jesus Christ, is approached with the reverence and dignity it deserves. Although not as vocally complex as Handles Messiah, this music is of a similar quality. The orchestration is rich and beautiful. I believe Rod Gardner sought and received inspiration in the writing of this stunningly beautiful music. I love the way this music makes me feel. I love it so much that I’ve purchased extra copies to share with friends.
I attended a live performance of this work and I loved every second of it. I was extremely moved. Since then, I listened to this CD two or three times a day straight through for weeks. Although I do prefer the live version, this recording is powerful as well. I would have preferred the narrators to have more mature voices, since it sounded like they were young adults. However it detracts little from its message of hope. The London Symphony Orchestra definitely does it justice. Rob Gardner is one of my favorite composers for sacred choral music, and this oratorio is the best of his work. He uses scripture in the words, but he also describes the different emotions the apostles might have had during the events of Christ's life. It really helps you view the life of Christ differently than if you are used to listening to Handel's Messiah or other hymns you've heard your whole life. Gardner really makes the Bible story many of us hear about since we were children come to life. I really appreciated Gardner's use of the cello as the voice of Christ rather than having a singer perform it. I would highly recommend this for Christians of any denomination, and is a wonderful way to celebrate Easter or the life of Christ any time of the year.
This music "The Lamb of God" is a beautiful telling of the final week of Christ's life. I especially resonate to "Hosanna," which shows Him entering Jerusalem on what many call "Palm Sunday." The orchestral and the vocal parts are beautiful together!
I've seen this performed live 3 times. I have the CD almost memorized. I love it more than I can express. Rob Gardner is divinely inspired and I'm so grateful for his work.
Not many pieces of music are as stirring as this. This ranks right next to Mozart's Requiem in its ability to reboot my soul to feeling when I have lost my ability to feel. Power telling of a powerful story.
Beautifully orchestrated, excellent attention to detail. Has been performed live by many interfaith choirs and orchestras. No matter what Christian denomination you belong to, you will love this! The motifs are very clever, and the feeling the composer and symphony put in it are astounding, especially on the songs "Make Me Whole" and "Lord, is it I?" "Gethsemane" is another great piece, with the cello representing the Lord. Makes me tear up, honestly. Wonderful messages from the last week of the Savior Jesus Christ. Also recommend Gardner's other album, "Joseph Smith the Prophet."
