Some Pros and Cons of Seiko Sports 5 Watches
Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2017
I have three Seiko Sports 5 watches of different designs, including this one. They all have similar pros and cons.
They look nice and feel like quality items.
They require no battery.
They are reasonably priced.
They have luminous hands and markers that remain very visible and readable all night in the dark, unlike most comparable luminous watches of similar cost. This is a big advantage to me.
They are very scratch resistant compared to many other watches that I have owned.
They seem to hold their water resistance well over time.
Cons: After several months they tend to loose or gain a minute or so every week (or even every few days) and need resetting more often than battery run watches.
They only continue to run for a day or so without motion. You can't put one aside for a couple of days without resetting the time (and possibly date).
My experience is that after 2 to 4 years they start to significantly loose time accuracy. I suspect that it has to do with the winding mechanism becoming more inefficient and they run down more quickly. Perhaps a cleaning could correct this, I'm not sure.
Still, I like these watches very much and give them a good rating.
