I love me some good Yo-Yo Ma, the slow, rich stuff in which he gloats over every note and sends cello magic coursing wild through the brain. This is not gloating music. This is Yo-Yo Ma coupled with Emanuel Ax and Itzhak Perlman, all of whom are staggeringly competent performers in their own right. The end result of this collaboration is that everyone plays nicely together, taking turns and refusing to layer on the funk and English that are really the whole reason I keep coming here. Is it bad? Not at all! It's an album full of Nice Classical Pieces Performed Very Well. If you're looking for expert precision, you'll be quite happy here. If, like me, you want fancy-time showboating, this is not your best bet.
