Full disclosure, I received a copy of this book to review and my knowledge of the MCAT is from when I took the test in early 2017. Much like other study guides, this guide is just that (a guide that is). I gives an overview on all relevant topics (with a test with so many topics as the MCAT, this leads to quite a large collection of overviews), but does not delve too deeply into specifics. This can be to the benefit of the reader, assuming they're fresh out of a pre-med undergraduate program or have had extensive experiences in the biomedical profession. If you've been out of college for a while (or never worked in the biomedical field) this guide is still helpful, as it can help you direct your study efforts more efficiently (although you may become overwhelmed with the sheer amount of information being thrown at you). The major drawback to this study guide is all practice questions come in the form of a single practice MCAT. It would have been far more helpful to have questions at the end of each section and a practice MCAT.
I was struggling with trying to pass the MCAT and nothing that I came across was able to help me get "over the hump."
That was until a classmate of mine told me about MCAT Secrets Study Guide for the 2019 & 2020 Testing Year. This book was a Godsend as it helped me understand and retain the material. Not only is it filled with extensive information you'll need to pass the test, it also comes with a group of test questions that close to the ones on the actual test.
The Guide is easy to read and will help you retain information as it is constructed in a logical and organized fashion. What I find refreshing is that the Guide will not drown the user in long worded entries or terms that make no sense.
If you want to get a leg up on your competition and pass the MCAT with flying colors, then I wholeheartedly recommend MCAT Secrets Study Guide 2019 & 2020.
Like all the other books, you won’t regret getting any test preparation guide from Mometrix. Very detailed and also includes a bibliography in the back for the pictures used in the guide. You can even use the websites mentioned for more review.
I haven't used the entire book yet but the explanations are extremely helpful and detailed and I overall think this is a good study book for material for me that seemed hard, and the practice questions are great as well.
