With 62 exercises, 20 workout routines, and three levels of fitness programs, Stay Fit for Life covers all aspects of older adult fitness. There are modifications for most to make them easier or more difficult. Many of the exercises also include a seated option. The pictures clearly show how to correctly perform all the exercises. Best of all the only equipment needed are a set of dumbbells, floor mat, chair and stair step. Most exercises don’t require anything more than some effort. Each exercise states which of five abilities it will help the user to achieve. The abilities include improved posture, greater strength, increased stability, better mobility, and more endurance. Many exercises hit more than one of the abilities.
The introduction of Stay Fit for Life includes some motivational facts such as every minute spent exercising after age 39 increases live span by 7 minutes and some frightening ones such as US emergency rooms treat an older adult for a fall every 11 seconds. There is even a quick six exercise self-assessment test to determine the reader’s fitness level prior to beginning a fitness program. The fitness programs each include four weeks of exercise routines with two days of rest each week. Day 1 of the beginner’s program only takes 12.5 minutes so it is hard to use lack of time as an excuse not to start exercising.
Stay Fit for Life is so great that I have already pre-ordered a hardcopy from Amazon. It is highly recommended for anyone who hasn’t exercised in years and wants a cheap, quick and easy way to start. 5 stars!
Thanks to the publisher, DK, and Netgalley for an advanced Kindle copy. I liked it so much I bought it in paperback!
I am 80 years old and over the years have belonged to many gyms, have had numerous personal trainers, and have bought countless exercise books. If I had had this book ages ago I could have dispensed with all of that. I am now working my way through the Beginners' Program at the end of the book. The photos and clear instructions make it very doable. I especially appreciate that the exercises are functional using multiple muscle groups. Kudos to whomever produced this gem.
Excellent book for the aging workout trainee. This fits the bill for me. I am interested in many areas of fitness that the book covers. For example, posture. I have tried the exercises in this area and they will challenge your muscles, and in my opinion, provide you with the opportunity to really improve your posture. There are other areas covered, i.e., speed, agility, strength, cardio fitness and others. This is not to say that the book would not be useful for any workout enthusiast, beginner, intermediate or advanced. But so many of our senior citizens have a vital and necessary need to improve our functionality. But for any workout trainee this book has significant benefits for everyone, youthful or older. And for those interested primarily in strength, the book provides great exercises. There is also a section that provides an overall training program. Since I only recently received the book, I have not tried the majority of programs but I fully intend to do so.
Another totally helpful area is that the author has a website under the HasFit website and this enables you to ask him questions. I did so and he answered me back immediately with very helpful advice. Thanks so much Coach Kozak, for your helpful response and book.
Interesting book, the exercises are deceptively easy at first glance. However, when you actually start doing them you quickly realize that starting out at level 3 is overly enthusiastic even if you are fit. The exercises get the job done. They are a bit heavy on the lower back though. The only annoying thing is that you have to leave through the whole book constantly to find your exercise. Since you only have a 10 second break between exercises the advise is to have a lot of page indicators ready.
These are practical and clear instructions on how to become fit or maintain a fit lifestyle. They target every single body part and provide the reader with different exercises to accommodate their fitness level. Coach Kozak also breaks down the benefits of each exercise (and exercise in general) and what muscles they benefit. As part of the Hasfit tribe, I can attest that Coach and Claudia really do walk the walk when it comes to fitness. This book is easy to use because it is layed out simply and nicely. I am really impressed with Coach’s skills and I intend to purchase more of these to give out as Holiday gifts. Thanks Coach! You’re killin’ it!
This book is really working for me. I use the exercises and the plans in the book along with my walking program, and I feel better than ever. This book is easy to follow, and the exercises make sense. It kicked my butt the first two days, but I stuck with it and felt great after a week. Trust the rave reviews. They're for real.
I really delight in this purchase as it provides new ways of movement to learn, programs to benefit from, and most importantly (or at least to myself) uses average people to demonstrate and model the exercises. I highly recommend this for those that like to get offline at times and take things slower now and again when exercising and think in terms of long term health and not just what the scale says this week.
This is an intelligent, yet easy read regarding up to date evidenced based optimal health. Both Coach Kozak and wife Claudia live these principles in being physically fit and share their love of living life to the fullest. Every fitness level is respected.
What I like most about this book is that the exercises are the same for most everyone but the length of time you do them is different based on your skill level, plus it tests you to find out what your skill level is. I really liked that. I am recovering from spinal surgery and wanted to really try to get back into shape and this book is helping me do that.
What I love about this book is that it gives you an assessment and then shows you what exercises to do to strength. And they have little inserts on how to make the exercise easier and harder. Wow! Amazing book. Exactly what I need. And exactly what YOU need no matter what level you are currently. Also has predefined fitness plans for specific levels and goals. Highly recommended.
