First I want to say this is NOT your typical motivational, self-help book. In fact, it's kinda the opposite of what I think of when I think of self-help books written by successful online business women. Jordan talks about taking the pressure off of yourself to do big things and instead encourages you to be intentional with and find purpose in your normal everyday life.
One major thing I love about Own Your Everyday is that every chapter tells a personal story or describes a situation that the reader can identify with. Then gives actual action steps to overcome the issue. Jordan presents these steps in a simple list first and then explains each step further. Jordan gives tangible help in all these situations rather than just throwing in inspirational quotes and saying things like "listen to God's will for your life" (which can often be hard to hear).
So basically I would recommend this book to ANY woman in ANY stage of life! It's a breath of fresh air. It's a different perspective on life and the pressures we face today. And it's all presented in the context of faith and love.
When I first heard of Jordan Lee Dooley I thought she was for younger girls, high school graduates, college sorority girls.... I didn't think I was her Target market and then I started reading...
By the time I was half way through the introduction I was hooked. Jordan is sincere and she writes as if she is your best friend. Inspiring you, pushing you and telling you her honest and vulnerable parts while helping you to know - I am not alone - we are all imperfect - we all question - we all struggle. Our stories are all different but deep down we deal with so many of the same things. Jordan's story opens the readers' eyes to letting down our guard and being vulnerable in order to get closer to our goals - whether it be a business goal or something personal such as friendships.
I can't recommend this book enough to women of all ages. I know each reader will take a different part from this book but all will find a key to what they might just need to hear right now. Since receiving my advanced copy from the publisher I have started following her podcast and continue to benefit from her words. I appreciate a book which gives the reader advice and doesn't flounce big fancy vocabulary and sound pretentious while just stating the simple truth. Jordan's down to earth writing style draws the reader in while making them feel a more personal connection through her words.
I am SO grateful for being accepted to be a part of this launch team, & even more so to have been chosen as 1 of only 500 to receive an Advanced Reader Copy courtesy of WaterBrook & Multnomah.
This will definitely be a book that I will be reading again & again!!!
LADIES, I don’t care what stage of life you are in, you NEED to read this book!!!
“Own Your Everyday: Overcome the Pressure to Prove and Show Up for What You Were Made to Do” by Jordan Lee Dooley has plenty of practical & applicable advice for living your best life no matter what season you are currently in.
I cannot state enough that I HIGHLY recommend this book!!! (I already ordered 2 extra because I want to bless others with this blessing of a book)
In Own Your Everyday Jordan Dooley tells stories of imposter syndrome, finding her own purpose where she least expected it, and relying on God in a relatable way. From navigating grief and loss, finding her purpose while pledging a sorority in college, struggling with self image and an eating disorder, to relying too heavily on herself and too little on God, Jordan gives relatable real life examples of things that many young women go through. She takes it a step further and gives helpful, applicable and relatable advise and encouragement in finding purpose in the highs and lows of life.
If you are a woman, young or old, struggling with figuring out what you are meant to do, where you are meant to be, or feel utterly alone in your journey, this is the book for you!
I received an advanced reader copy of the book from Waterbrook Multnomah Press .
Can i just highlight the whole book? Cuz I’m about to highlight the whole book. Do yourself a favor and purchase this book. Do not put it down until you’re done. That honestly won’t be a problem because it’s so so good!
This book is perfect for any woman, at any stage of life, looking for encouragement to embrace the calling God has for them in both the large and small pieces of their life! I love that Jordan encourages her readers to begin right where they are, shares her personal story and her experience learning the lessons she shares, and then includes practical action steps in each chapter - there's literally no excuse not to find your purpose if you read her book thoughtfully and step out in even just a few of her suggested steps in faith! Can't recommend more highly. I received an early copy of this book from the publisher as a member of the book launch team.
I'll admit, when Jordan said she was going to be releasing a book "that would be for everybody" I was a bit skeptical and honestly a little bit concerned because I thought she would end up compromising the Gospel/biblical approach to life in favor of appealing to secular audiences.
THANKFULLY Jordan did not do this. She was clear in making sure the reader understood that our purpose is not tied to a specific career path, married life, etc but rather to HOW we live our lives. This includes cultivating relationships with others around us right where we are, battling our pride and the need to be better than other people just for our own glory, trying things and being okay with failing knowing that it in no way thwarts God's plan for our lives, taking that first step, and knowing that our identity is in no way tied to what we do BUT in who God says we are.
I also liked how Jordan had practical steps in almost every chapter that gave the reader some actionable ways in which she could carry out the truths Jordan spoke about.
Although I know this book was not marketed strictly towards Christians, I do wish Jordan had done a better job at presenting the Gospel and salvation a bit clearer than she does on the part titled "The Door I Never Opened". I wish she had just spelled it out a bit more i.e. talked about SIN and how that distorts the view of ourselves and leads to our pride, need to prove ourselves to people, and wanting to do everything out of our own strength. This section could have been presented better than it was but honestly, apart from that, I would recommend this book.
I also wish she had clearly spelled out that our purpose in life is to glorify God with our lives. I believe Jordan didn't do that because she's trying to appeal to secular audiences as well.
I am thankful for Jordan's ministry because I got to join The Sisterhood when it was still in its early phases and I've met some wonderful women who love the Lord and most importantly, His Word. I am happy to go out there and Own My Everyday by living intentionally because of my identity in Christ and making sure I'm valuing others above myself and doing everything as unto the Lord.
I received an Advanced Reader copy (& bought my own copy, too). This book is pure gold. If you aren't a huge reader, don't worry - it doesn't read like a "normal" book. Jordan achieved the perfect tone in her book, making it more like a conversation with your closest gals. I've laughed, tried, reread in disbelief that I wasn't alone in my struggles, and just about used up a highlighter. Jordan speaks truths to the lies we tell ourselves as women. She bravely shares her experiences and advice. She is bold in her faith and that has encouraged my own faith even more. If you need a pep talk, truths to combat lies, encouragement to seize opportunities and overcome perfectionism, THIS. BOOK. IS. FOR. YOU. And if you don't need any of that, still buy it. It's a great convo that will leave you better than before you start.
This book is by far one of my favorite books. This book truly shows you how to own and show up for the everyday things in life. It has made me realize that my purpose is already instilled within me and it’s not some thing I need to go searching out. It has shown me that I don’t need to put the pressure on myself to prove.
This is what I felt just a couple chapters in: “I’ve realized that I’ve been working hard and not well. I’ve realized that I’ve been putting pressure and unrealistic expectations on myself only so that I can prove others wrong. I’ve compared myself to others making me feel less than worthy. And I’ve felt shame of not doing enough. I didn’t truly realize what the problem was till I read these words on this page.. and I’m so thankful that I did. I’m only 5 pages in but I can already tell this book is going to not only impact my life but thousands upon thousand of other women who struggle with owning their every day.”
So, go order this book... free yourself from the pressure to prove... and do what you were made to do!
Love you J. So proud of you. This book is already impacting so many lives and it’s going to impact thousands upon thousands.
Let me tell you...Jordan Lee Dooley speaks to your heart in every way. This is a book designed to help you work toward making space for your biggest dreams and finding ways to achieve them. Jordan is so down to earth and relatable. Some books in this genre feel like a lecture but Jordan is so genuine in sharing her own struggles and doubts, it feels less like someone telling you what to do and way more like a good friend guiding you toward your best self. I couldn't put this down and plan to re-read it multiple times. This would also be a wonderful book to read every December or January as your prepare for the year ahead. Take time to get comfy (Jordan is a big advocate for leggings and cozy sweatshirts!) and read this book - you will not regret it!
