Crocs - the shoes we love to hate. Five stars for comfort and utility, -3 stars for fashion sense.

So I, like many harbored a hatred for Crocs (never having actually tried them on) until I was watching a youtube video by Simon, a bloke in the woods. He suggested that Crocs were the perfect footwear for schlepping around the campsite. My shoe size is large enough that I can't be terribly picky in shoe styles and have learned to pull the trigger when I find reasonably priced shoes in my size. It just so happens that Crocs ARE made in my size and they're very reasonably priced. I was intrigued and bought a pair and now I'm hooked. They are painfully ugly and they make my already huge feet look even bigger, but they are REALLY comfortable. They're versatile, easy to slip on, indestructible, easy to clean, they drain water really well, they're ultra lightweight, inexpensive, AND you can actually paint them if you so desire. I recently took them on a camping trip in which the campsite was littered with roots and cobbles. I usually take a pair of Vans because of their ease of slipping on / off. I much preferred the Crocs because the sole protected my feet a lot better than the Vans did. I wouldn't recommend Crocs for long walks or hiking, but for easy on / off around the campsite, or wet sports like canoeing and kayaking (as well as wearing to the shower) they're ideal. They're also really nice for letting your feet breathe after being in boots all day.
TLDR: Crocs are butt ugly, but I love them for many reasons - versatility and comfort being #1 and 2.
