Yes a filter comes with it and you might want to run it under the faucet for least 10 to 15 seconds.... But after that it'll be ready for use .....

I haven't used the previous version. But I like this one. It performs really good. I suppose they're kind of the same. Because filters they sell they're the same.

I don’t know about that. All I know is that tiny black specs that match the visible bottom of the filter end up in the filtered water. From what I’ve read, It seems to be carbon debris from filter.
