Didn't work for me. Hard drive didn't spin up. My guess is not enough power thru usb to power up. Didn't try dvd drive.

I used mine for a hard drive I pulled from my laptop. Just make sure it has the right connection.

It will work with the spinner drive as long as you plug into an USB 3.0 port, which supply enough power for the spinner drive. I do recommend getting an enclosure for the spinner drive. You can get those as a kit with cable from eBay fairly cheap. Good luck.

Yep, I did just that and it worked 2009 MacBook Pro). But I failed to install the ssd correctly. The drive went in and it booted but some applications I needed no longer functioned, Adobe programs did not migrate. Oh well, but this adapter did work as advertised.

It will only work if your hard drive’s logic board uses a SATA interface that later converts to USB. Many external drive logic boards are only a USB output. If yours is a SATA converted on a separate logic board to USB, then just remove the second board and it will work.
