From the installation guide...IEEE 802.3af POE supported. That standard covers POE voltage at least through the 24 volt range.
I am using one of these to protect an EnGenius ENS202EXT outdoor Access Point and have had no problems.

If you are running ANY of your cable outside in the ground, then yes. I know of three lightning strikes from cat 5 cable in the ground, two my own home.
