Is echo dot 3rd generation battery operated?

Nope, it's not.
Recently I have bought a GGMM D3 battery base for my echo dot 3, now I can take it to the backyard (while doing yard work/gardening), really enjoy this.

No, it needs to be plugged into an outlet, just like the prior versions. It comes with the power cord and wall adapter.

It's only a matter of time. There are batteries for earlier versions. For example:

It is not battery operated, but there are some attachments you can use to make it a little more portable. You would still need it to have an internet connection.

dot 3rd Gen, if I unplug a unit that has already been Installed/setup will you have to go through the setup process each time it is unplugged ?
The app on my iPhone keeps the set up info so you do not have to set up again, right?
