The hard drive from my broken laptop was removed so i could transfer my data. can this be attached directly onto the hp hard drive for data transfer?

Yes, but it is unclear on whether you will have access to your information. Best bet is that you will, but, just a heads up if you don't.

If it's a 2.5 inch SATA drive, yes.

Your question causes pause for thought. If your broken laptop HD was 2.5 SATA, this product will connect it via USB to another computer to transfer information from it. If the drive was the problem, it may not yield the results you want. If the drive was encrypted, you will have another hurdle to address.
