My seagate backup plus slim quit working and I was wondering if this cable will work when i take it apart to transfer my data to a new external HD?

It will only work if your hard drive’s logic board uses a SATA interface that later converts to USB. Many external drive logic boards are only a USB output. If yours is a SATA converted on a separate logic board to USB, then just remove the second board and it will work.

I'm really not sure. All I can tell you is I successfully used it to transfer contents from my laptop hard drive to my desktop PC. If the connection of your drive is the same as a laptop drive then it should work.

some of external enclosure drives have a logic board that encrypts the data - if you remove the drive from the logic board the data on the drive may no longer be readable.
