This is an unequivocally false statement. The active noise cancellation in the Cowin E7 isn't remotely effective, and it baffles me that so many people have praised this product. It performs moderately well with loud, constant sounds such as an exhaust fan above your stove or a box fan. Otherwise you will need to spend at least a hundred dollars more for effective noise cancellation.

Active is like you washing your car to make it clean. It takes effort to cancel noise (electricity and electronics).
Passive would be allowing the rain to rinse your car (zero effort). In this case a headphone that seals the ear from the noise source like passive ear protection or ear muffs. The E7 uses both. A larg… see more

A large padded cup to create a chamber and active electronics to provide additional frequencies that make it so you can not perceive the noise frequencies. The headphones use external microphones and a microprocessor to create frequencies that cancel external noise such as airplane engine drone or HVAC systems. On a high quality (expensive) pair such as those made by Bose, the effect is quite stunning. I would expect less noise reduction at this price, but it's worth a shot.

Uses it's own power source (active) for the electronics that create a 180 degrees out of phase sound signal to oppose the unwanted noise(noise cancelling).

This is actually not an effective noise cancellation headset. If you are actually looking for something really good, you must spend around $150 dollars at least.
I bought it for $35 and it does a decent job. If you buy this for me for Christmas as a friend or family member, I will never talk to you again.
