Yes. The software only prepares your tax return for the current year.

Adding another version for no real reason every few years, and charging more for it, has been a long practice of TT. The last reason for my having to go to Premier from whatever was before was to add more forms to support the ultimate Schedule D. The last reason for my having to go to Premier from whatever was before was to add more forms to support the ultimate Schedule D. Now this year, they have three or four preliminary shedules,new forms(, and worksheets it takes forever to get down to the D and get it filled in right, if at all (I am stalled on it, have erased quite a bit, and needing to start over.) They have removed the over-ride feature from about everything to force ones to use these multi-schedules. There is a free basic version of TurboTax which you don't need to purchase. However, if you're considering using the "Premier" or "Business" versions, the answer is Yes, because the tax code and forms change every year and you need the latest up-to-date forms and information. Fortunately, the price is low compared to using a certified accountant to handle your income taxes.
