4.0 out of 5 starsGreat shoes.... but can a middle-aged man wear them in 2016?
September 6, 2016
I loved these shoes when I had them as a teenager in the 1970s. Fast forward.... I bought a pair of these in 2010. I loved wearing them again! Retro! Modern! Then they wore out I bought another pair in 2015. I loved wearing them again.... again! Then my son pointed out that Superstars are very popular with teenage girls. To rub it in, he sent my lots of pictures of girls at his high school wearing them.
Just received mine about an hour ago. They look good, like good fakes. I own a few pair of Adidas and these don't look the same quality. You can see the glue seeping from the seams. On top of that, they feel horrible. Extremely narrow, and I'm a slim guy I don't have very wide feet. Will be returning promptly. I don't recommend purchasing from this seller unfortunately.
Not a complete disappointment. What I really like about the shoes is the old school look, that's why I, and probably most people, actually buy these shoes. The shoes came wider than I expected especially since they were labeled as M width. Coming from someone with extra wide Hobbit-like feet (hair included) I was extremely surprised when they actually fit well. The heel of the shoe fits comfortably on the back of my ankles and there's no rubbing, but there was a slight pinch up on my toes whenever I took a step and the shoe bent inwards. This will more than likely go away once I break them in some more. But what I was most disappointed with is the fact that the soles of these shoes are just absolutely horrible. After walking around for just a few minutes I felt like I had been jumping on an iron block for the better part of Eternity. So I went out and I bought a $14 pair of gel inserts and laid them directly on top of the soles, and gave them a try. Now, instead of feeling like my feet have been tortuously slapped with bamboo by Angry Mongolians, my feet feel like they have their own personal pillows from Heaven to walk around in. If you are going to buy these shoes, they are not going to be running shoes, these are more for show and a bit of comfort but not athletic wear. But at the very least, I advise you find a pair of gel inserts to go along with them as soon as you purchase them.
Loved the look, delivery and packaging was legit, but I have only worn these shoes on a daily basis for 2 months and the material inside the shoes is tearing, fraying and appear as if I have worn these as running shoes for years. Disappointed to report that these shoes won't last me through the summer and that's an absurd amount to spend for shoes that can't last a full year of daily casual wear.
Really wish Adidas didn't discontinue the SuperStar II shoes. These are very similar but I hate the gold Superstar on the side and the gold on the tongue of the shoe. These would be perfect without the gold like the Superstar II was offered. Other than that, they fit great and are comfortable. My biggest complaint is that I only get about 12-15 months of use out of them before my big toe is sticking thru the sole. These shoes wear very fast compared to any other shoe I buy, especially for the pricetag.
The shoes are clean and just as I would expect them to look. I saw some reviews that these shoes run 1/2 size big so I bought them at an 8.5 size. I am typically a size 9 in women's shoes; however they still were too big. I'm hoping a size 8 will fit me better.
Fresh to DEATH! Nothing like a snappy crisp new pair of old school Adidas Superstars. I liked them so much I bought an extra pair to put in storage and a pair for my husband - I got him the black out ones. Love them all!
PROS: * They came in faster than I expected * They look just like the photo depicted. I also checked for defective stitching etc.. no issues found * They fit exact! I'm a size US13 and bought US13. I'm not sure about anyone else but I had no issues on size * Durability.. I have worn them every day since they came in and it's been cold.. wet weather in PA. Even though they are newer, I have not seen any issues with them. * Comfortable
CONS: * None so far.. honestly.. and I'm always one to give CONS on something that deserves it.
Length was ok, but it is really a narrow shoe. Too much hassle to try to return them. It's the hazard of buying online, I reckon. Other than that, these are the shoes of my youth in a nice green color. Really nice shoe. Just watch the sizing.
At the risk of sounding like I'm pining for the old days, the modern version of this legendary shoe just isn't as well made as it used to be. It's still a durable court shoe or knock-around, but the materials of construction aren't quite as good, and they don't have the high-quality feel that the old ones did. I've been wearing this model as casual outdoor shoes since the 1970s, so I've had ample time to evaluate them.
Markedly more narrow than similar pairs Ive bought in the past. I compared the sole to a pair it is replacing and the sole is more narrow. Probably just another manufacturer cutting corners by using less material to sell an inferior product . If you have wide feet Id pass these up .
