1.0 out of 5 starsDo not buy if you have depression

I wish I read more reviews before purchasing this, rather than just looking at the overall high rating. I made it about halfway through this book and could not continue on. The author is oblivious about many real life things, one of them being depression. She wrote, "If you're depressed, just act like someone who isn't depressed." How would a depressed person know what that is like? Depression is a real illness, like cancer. It is like saying, "If you are chronically ill, just act like someone who isn't chronically ill".
Depression is something to be taken very seriously. Some people battle it their whole lives while others have to deal with it long-term, and some seasonally, but it is not the same as feeling sad for a bit. It concerns me even more deeply that this is a best selling book and people who read this may begin to believe that depression is an act or a choice or a 'story' as the author would call it. Our society truly does not understand this condition or support people who are suffering with it.
There are over 50,000+ books on Amazon helping people who have depression. This is not one of them. I absolutely do not recommend reading this book if you struggle with depression. I also do not recommend it in general as I gleaned nothing useful from the first half of the book. I'd return this if I could.
