I am fairly new to yoga and I am 62... I love the idea of doing yoga at my own pace and in my own home. I love Barbara Benagh's approach and style! excellent... I loved it so much I bought DVD for my sisters.
I'm in my mid-50s and fairly fit. I've done a fair share of yoga and am familiar with what is called for in many of the maneuvers. Unfortunately, in this video series, a great deal of the positions place great stress on the wrists - very uncomfortable and painful.
I ordered this dvd and finally got around to trying it. The window on returns was closed when I opened the package the wrong dvd was in the case. No reflection on the dvd just poor quality control. Open your packages and check them. Lesson learned
I would not say this is appropriate for someone over 50, nor for beginners. I’ve been doing yoga for years and I found the poses to be too technical and somewhat dangerous, such as a shoulder stand. Um, I don’t think so!
My husband and I did Barbara's downward dog on this DVD, which involes putting your hands and upper arms on the floor parallel and close together, then pushiing your rear end up so most of weight on the arms. I severely hurt my left shoulder doing this last June, and have had to take pain killers and are now in PT because of it. My husband hurt his right elbow doing the same pose, and has had a lot of pain with it. This posture puts too much strain on the shoulders and arms. Don't do it!
I love Barbara Benagh. I have several of her videos and bought this one because it was over 50 and I am having more difficulty doing some of her original programs and thought over 50 meant it would take into consideration the problems of exercising over 50. If your are an active healthy over 50 you will probably like this but if you have arthritis, osteoporosis, etc. I will cause nothing but pain.
