Amazon.com: Customer reviews: YI 2pc Smart Home Camera 3, AI-Powered 1080p Security Camera System IP Cam with 24/7 Emergency Response, Human Detection, Sound Analystics, Night Vision, 2.4G Wi-Fi, App for Nanny Monitor
I was going to replace my Arlo Pro 2 to save some money, but probably won't. Camera is great, easy voice guided set up, but: lack of manual and support (never replied to email), camera has many features but it's not mentioned unless you Google it and find out yourself. I installed micro SD card but wanted to try promised free cloud service but no way to get it and find. To see video recorded you have to dig and search Yi Home application. Not as straight forward as Arlo. Motion detection works but even with High sensitivity out of my 5-6 moves recorded only 2. Plus, it didn't recorded at all till enabled Human detection and Sound abnormality. Bottom line: you have no clue when it will or won't recorded. Auto White Balance gives you a yellow cast indoors, and white balance can not to be adjusted. Power led can be disabled if needed in settings. You can wall mount it easily after Google search since nothing in manual: you need to twist plastic base counterclockwise from magnetic base to see holes for the screws. Power cable is only 6.5 feet not long enough for security camera. Video quality is sharper than Arlo Pro 2 but it's done by digital sharpening. It's already Yi third version, but I believe it is still half-baked. Motion detection, AWB, Yi Home app has to be improved. The price is good though. But, depends for needs you getting it for. It's good for general use.
The cameras are decent but the subscription service is a serious pain in the neck. I have three of these bought separately and I simply cannot get all three to work together on the subscription. They offer up to 5 cameras on differnet loops but good luck trying to get all of them on the same subscription. Without a cloud subscription the cameras are worthless. All a criminal has to do is take the camera. Waste of money. Go elsewhere if you're serious about home security. The more I type the more angry the whole system makes me. Way to aggrevating.
I gave it three stars due to the fact it boasted free cloud storage however did not come equipped as it claimed. Not to mention the part that's supposed to stick the cameras to the wall doesnt stick at all so if you dont have a metal area to place it the camera is pretty much useless. Tomorrow while I am at work if the cameras arent viewable i will be changing my rating to 2 stars.
The camera itself is just so so. The resolution is just okay. The app is really hard to use. If you only 5GHz network at home, then you would not be able to connect your cameras to your networks. This is bad for home wifi systems like google wifi where you cannot really choose the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band. You have to move to some remote places in your home to force 2.4GHz network connection on your phone so that you can activate these cameras correctly.
The app does not work well overall. Any action in the app is not smooth. The UI is pretty bad too.
Overall, I do not think that it is a good solution for home security and would not recommend it.
Very frustrated at this purchase! Tbh I didn’t find the camera having specific issue, but I had to return them because I couldn’t even set it up. I work in IT industry so I think I know what I was doing. I still own a 1st gen Yi camera and was quite happy about it, so I have success setting up YI camera before. It was not that hard any way.
But this one with latest software, you no longer put WiFi SSID/password yourself, instead you just connect your phone to WiFi. I was hoping it to be that simple, only to find that App kept asking me to “connect to WiFi”. Well, I obviously did, as shown in screenshot.
At that point, I realized a potential issue to be my unified 2.4GHz/5GHz SSID from my Orbi router. I then separate 5GHz to a dedicated SSID, and verified my phone was indeed connecting via 2.4GHz. But that didn’t change anything. The stupid App still keeps saying same thing, without telling me what went wrong. I tried a different router (AirPort Extreme) and the problem was still there. I’m not going to trust YI product any more.
Placed the cameras to watch my 84 yr. old mom but It often freezes saying “poor internet connectivity” the internet modem is located there in the room where one of the cameras is placed and no other device is connected to the internet. Audio is not clear also.
