Violet is in angel world at the hands of her queen mother, forced to act as princess. Rebel and Ash are locked away and hurting. Half angel, half vampire, she's still searching for exactly where she fits in. Her mother is a tyrant, she's abusive and controlling and Violet wants nothing to do with it. But she needs to learn to play her mother's game if she wants to survive and get out of here to find her sister. I've always said how much I love Johns writing style as it's beautifully unique. Her books are so much more than just vampire books or angel books as there is nothing typical about her characters. Violet is a strong character, and I enjoyed her moments of naivety in a world she's only just come to know. The entire world that she has created is engaging and imaginative, the characters, deep. This was my most favorite of Johns' books to date.
I received this book as a gift and am voluntarily leaving a review...Violet, half angel-half vampire! She goes to the world where her mother is Queen and expects Violet to become just like her – EVIL! Violet has other plans that do not coincide with her evil mother’s. Her life is on the line after receiving another’s sword and a deadly game ensues. In Angel World, she discovers the “Angels” are not the “good” angels she was led to believe. She does her best to protect the younger ones…but if she does not try out for the warrior trials (after a battle with the Fallen)…what will happen to her friends? What will occur if she loses? Will she survive? Find out in the epic second book and be prepared for an even better read!!!!
Heroine Violet has never known anything except the vampire kingdom she's grown up in, with her sister Jade and friends Ash and Rebel, who've been kidnapped by the Angels, (who are definitely not cute/fluffy/benevolent/always nice beings). The street kids are the enticement to get Violet into the Angel world and Violet would do anything to save them from becoming slaves to the Court nobles.
So what do you do, when you've been raised as a vampire and suddenly get lured into a world where your long-lost Mom turns out to be the evil Queen of the twisted Angel world you're now in? You pretend to be just like her until you work out how to escape and save your pals too, before the epic civil war battle between Angels and Vampires breaks out the next morning, of course!
Rosemary A Johns' fantasy paranormal coming-of-age series Rebel Angels, of which Vampire Princess is no 2, is almost a manual for how to cope with the realities of adult relationships and trust and maturity issues in teen to YA youngsters. I can definitely recommend it to fans of Labryinth and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Buy the first two books today and get ready for book 3 - you'll love it!
I loved Violet more in book 2 of that's possible than in book 1. I think it's because I could see her growing as a character. She became more defined to me. Now about the book, loved it so much! Who would ever have thought that was Violets mom? Angel World it was different from what i expected, however that's what makes it great! You can make it anything you want! (If your the author) So getting to read this was a little mind blowing, but so freaking amazing! There were new additions to Violets crew of misfits, then some were not included anymore. * remember no spoilers here people* So stop waiting and start reading!
This series just keeps getting better. Poor Violet, just when you think she has it figured out, you and she realize she doesn't. Her mother the Queen is as evil as they come. Angel World is not as angelic as everyone believes it to be, and Violet has to learn to control her powers least she becomes like the Queen, so everyday is a struggle. Her fam is growing and the cliffhanger ending is enough to have you pull your hair out. Rosemary is doing a great job with this series and I look forward to reading the next book.
Violet will quickly learn that her mommy dearest has an agenda, and that she will be used and abused by more than one Angel in a power struggle to rule all Angels and eliminate the Fallen. Violet, along with the few allies she has, will plot their escape. One of those allies, someone she considers family, will betray her and the rest of the escapees. Once again Violet will find herself a prisoner, this times by the vampires who plan to take her to her father, King of the Vampires. Exciting, action packed plot with magic, violence, and fascinating, complex characters in a unique world. Fantastic book, I loved it!
I am voluntarily leaving an honest and nonincentivized review of this ARC.
This is an exciting and awesome follow up to a promising series that is growing by leaps and bounds. I love the vampire/ angel dynamic that makes Violet and her crew compelling and refreshing. Where book 1 was a strong start, this book takes off the ground running with enough adventure, intrigue and plenty of "say what" moments that will have you on the edge of your seat from page one till the end. Wonderful !!
I love how Rosemary writes. Violet is a prisoner in the Angel realm. She finally gets an audience with the Queen and discovers the Queen is her mother and a very cruel queen. The queen gives her 7 days to prove herself worthy or the Queen will kill her. What with not knowing who to trust and staying alive Violet manages with her snarky attitude. I look forward to the next book and Violet girl you need to keep your smart mouth and attitude, your powers and your inner voice close as I think it'll be another bumpy road.
This is my honest and unbias opinion of the story. This is an amazing story to read it is book number two in the series. When I started reading this series I fell in love with the strong characters and the wonderful story line. If you but this book you will not be disappoint at all trust me, and I highly recommend this book to everyone.
