5.0 out of 5 starsFilters solids like a mad-man - possibly pre-filter? (Update pending on experiment)

Some may complain on this subject, but I see this as a pro. These things filter the crap out of your water, then clog out when they're full.
I don't see this as a defect. I live in Portland OR, where we "pride" ourselves on open water reservoirs - the kind that get Federal attention and lawsuits ("cover them up or else!"). There are so many solids in my water that these filters only last about 2 months before they're utterly done and non-functional. To us, that means I load up the top-end of the filter and it sits for 45 minutes doing nothing - barely a drip. I can smack it and it'll filter a little but it's still non-functional for bulk filtration. I have not installed a whole house filter since we're planning on selling soon.
We're about to start an experiment with pre-filtering with a cheaper household brand. Pour, pre-filter, pour and see how long they last afterwards. I have no faults in a product that lasts a few months then runs into issues because of the amounts of solids in our water. Even my toilets complain when I clean them, in the form of bacteria (pink/green/black growth if I let it go), so I see this as an awesome endorsement to what this product filters out.
