1.0 out of 5 starsAn unfortunate miss in the Austen adaptation library
July 15, 2016
I usually eat up anything Jane Austen related, but I couldn't get beyond the first 20 minutes of this adaptation (which is a good 5 minutes more than I would have given it if I wasn't really, really trying to give myself a reason to keep watching). While I was barely able to make it past the setup, what I saw was pretty superficial; the characters are flat, the updated plot line is uninspiring and kind of hokey, and there's little of the titular play between the "sense" or "sensibility" of Elinor and Marianne that makes this story so special. In fact, I wouldn't have been able to tell which sister was which if they hadn't mercifully retained the original character names.
Now I know why I hadn't heard of this before, despite it's having been released five years ago.
