“WARNING WILL ROBINSON” !!!!!!!!!!’

The vacuum cleaner works fine after it maps your house for awhile, however!!!!! And this is a “WARNING” for all who look here.... in order to use the app ( mi home ) there is absolutely no reason why a Chinese company in Shanghai needs to have my phone number, my email address, my locations sent through my phone all of the time even when the app is not in use, and a detailed map of my house. No freakin way is that gonna happen so without registering my life to the Chinese through this app, I deleted it, never to use it, ever!!!!! The buttons on the vacuum cleaner work just fine.

A Potential Spy In Your Home

Love this robot vacuum but when installing the Mi Phone Xiaomi app on my iPhone there were warnings about its security that led me to the article in this photo and I immediately deleted the app. While I don’t know if it can really spy on me, it’s not worth the risk. I’ll just enjoy it as a dumb vacuum.

I’ve been on the market for a robot vacuum for a while now. This one just came in about a week ago, so this is a first impression review. I will update of at any time my opinion changes.
I’m not sure of the power of this robovac vs others. I do feel this would be better labeled as a “robot sweeper” instead, as that is basically what you get. You know when you sweep the carpet and you basically just get the stuff on the surface but not much of the dirt in the fibers of the carpet? That’s what you get here as well.
Ultimately I chose this vacuum because of the mopping capability. This is where I feel this guy falls pretty short. It’s basically a Swiffer, only slightly worse because at least with a Swiffer you have some human power behind it. This thing basically works by gravity dripping the mop solution of your choice from the tank and onto the pad, then it drags it around your floor. Your floor will be cleaner afterward, but only slightly, and if your dogs left some muddy footprints on your floor, you will have to go over them with a mop the old fashioned way.
So this vacuum/mop is good for general maintenance cleaning, nothing more. About the same as if you run over your floors with a cheap dirt devil with a wet towel dragging behind it. If you’re like me and you have two small children and two large dogs and your house is perpetually in a “company is coming shove some stuff in the closets so they don’t think we actually live like this” state, you will need to keep a real vacuum and a real mop on hand.
It is fun to watch though, 5 stars for entertainment value at least

Barely adequate if you don't use the app

For full functionality, this device REQUIRES your email address, your contact list, your phone history and everything else you have on your phone. It would probably be easier to post your bank account number, password list and credit card numbers online, so I'm never going to use an app that ridiculously gives a Chinese company full access to my data. Therefore, I only have partial functionality of a not-very-smart robot. I've used it a dozen times now and it seems incapable of learning my floor plan. It skips rooms, triple vacuums others and gets itself caught in "endless loop" spots. I call it Forest Gump because even if I start it from the same spot every time, I never know what I'm going to get. As I said, barely adequate without the app.

Very thorough, hard working vacuum, just not very bright

This vacuum does a good job of vacuuming. I couldn't get it to connect to my 2.4GB Wi-Fi, so the app is useless. When talking to customer support I suspected that they have sold several vacuums not compatible with a lot of personal Wi-Fis. Mismatched firmware? They did send me a virtual wall though, a mag strip and reflective tape.

Anyway, don't need that frill. The support staff said that even if it did connect, you still don't have much more control than the 3 buttons on top, they're just on your phone. I put in where I want it to start and push the button. It rumbles around, and when you think its learned the house, it gets lost or stuck.

I like it though. When it gets done, the carpet is clean and looks great. Sometimes I have to go find it. It can find great hiding spots. It's like having a naughty puppy.

I think most of the robo vac manufactures are over hyping the capability of their on-board artificial intelligence.

Here is my honest experience with the product. 1) the manual is a joke. I contacted amazon about 3 separate issues that even they struggled to figure out. 2) it’s pretty loud. Unless your doing a light clean. Most of us need a through clean. 3) it’s not slim enough to go under furniture. 4) the mopping? Forget it. Maybe if you had just hardwood but I also have white tile and it doesn’t do a good job. It was this super thin terry cloth pad that attaches to the bottom. When using you would have to use magnetic strips on all your carpets or pick them up otherwise they’ll get mopped. 5) I did like the mapping. It did very good and found it’s way back home very well. 6) You pretty much have to use the app. It doesn’t come with a remote. 7) I had issues with it stop cleaning. After a full cycle it would keep going and going8) I have 1 dog and it did well with the hair I realized though that I can only use it when I’m home because it needed to be dumped 1/2 way though. 9). I sent back and purchased a new vacuum only machine. Another brand. There are quirks about that one too. Still looking for my perfect match.

Good vacuum but gets stuck a lot

I’ve had this vacuum since February. It does a good job. We have tile floors and the mopping feature even works. It’s not a great mop but it’s good enough. My issue with it is that it’s constantly getting stuck under our island or the dishwasher. Which has caused a whole bunch of scratches on top of the robot. It says that it collects mapping of the room. I wish it would notice that it gets stuck there, so it should avoid it. I even tried getting the magnetic strip to prevent it from going under there but it still does. I have to put the strip like way in front of those spaces for it to avoid it. Because I do a nightly cleaning, I don’t want to leave those ugly strips in my kitchen 24/7 or have to put them down every night. I’m at a loss of what to do. Almost every morning, I wake to it stuck under one of those spaces. If it didn’t do that, it would be a great vacuum. Now I have a $300 vacuum that’s completely scratched up and nothing to do about it.

Very disappointed with this vacuum. After cleaning for an hour, it then spends the next hour bumping into everything to get back to the charging dock. It has a map, but will very often defy the map and travel in directions that would never get it to the charging dock. Also this vacuum fails to climb over small area rugs, either pushing them around or going around them. I RETURNED THIS VACUUM AND BOUGHT THE S5, which is years ahead of this model. Don't waste your money on this or the E35 model, both will disappoint you.
I'm not sure why there are so many positive reviews for the E series, but I doubt most of them are credible.

An intelligent vacuum that's dumber than dirt

I had decided to buy a robo-vacuum, and spent a good amount of time seeking out reviews on the internet: this seemed--from the reviews, at least--to be one of the better mid-level vacuums. I had owned a Roomba from several years ago, but it left this mortal coil some time ago, and the replacement parts were no longer available. I had hoped that four or five years later they would be smarter.

The first Xiomi worked once, and then would clean for only 5 minutes before needing recharging. I returned it for another one (thanks, Amazon!), and the second one, after three months, seems to have a reasonable battery life.

I have a couple issues. First of all, in order to use all of its features, this device requires installation of a smart phone app, and I wasn't comfortable with the privacy policy, or of the notion of giving a Chinese company access to my network, personal information, and contact list.

So, I've been using the vacuum in its "vanilla" mode, using only the buttons on the vacuum itself to control it. I have no access to "high-power" mode, or scheduling without that app. It does an okay job, but there is no sign of "intelligence" in the device. It just wanders randomly around my apartment until the battery runs low, and it (tries to) return to the docking station for a re-charge. It finds the docking station about 50% of the time, just going in random directions until it is able to spot the LED on the station.

It gets stuck often: it will lodge itself on a lamp base, or on the barrier strip between the living room and the kitchen, and then simply die. So, if I start the thing when I leave for the office in the morning, more often than not I have to go on a hands-and-knees search when I get home to find where it had gotten stuck, and return it to the base by hand.

It picks up a fair amount of dust in its collector, but I just watched it go over a piece of popcorn on the carpet 3 times without being able to suck it up. And because its cleaning pattern is so random, it only manages about 60% coverage of the parts of the apartment where it has been deployed.

I have a friend with a Roomba 770 (which is in the same price range), and it is vastly more effective at cleaning (although it's a bit louder). At the end of a run, it picks up almost twice as much dirt. If I had it to do all over again, I'd get one of those.

Junk - They don’t stand behind the warranty

Problem: manufacture is refusing to replace the unit under warranty with same or like kind functioning unit. They offered to send me a “used” unit that will come in a “dirty box” but also would not come with the 1 year warranty. What kind of warranty is a replacement that is basically used and likely to fail?
Customer service is out sourced and clue less, they transfer you to an email support team that barely speaks English.
Pay a little extra for higher quality and company that stands behind their product.
- Since day 1 this vacum had Issues as it rolled around the a 700 sqft living room.
- It did not go in straight lines rather it went diagonals.
- it continued it dies (battery) in middle of the room or behind couch even though it’s only used in a 700 sqft living room/dining room.
- it crashes into into furniture and other times it stops and slows down.
- see video, after pressing the power cord button it’s supposed to return to home position on the other side of the couch but it just keeps bumping around the dining and back of the couch. Had the unit for 11 months.
