This last book in the Confessions of the Heart series, could very well be the most powerful one of all. All along I've been very curious about Maxon Chambers. The man who seemed to have the weight of the world on his shoulders as he made sure that his brothers, his best friends in Jace and Ian Jacobs, rose above their tortured pasts and had the lives they deserved. His protective ways seemed to help everyone else he cared for, but who was going to save him? His loner ways broke my heart and yet A.L. Jackson in her wickedly masterful ways gave him the only balm that could ever repair his shattered soul: the woman he had to let go of all those years ago, his Izzy.
Oh my goodness. From the very start I fell into the gloriously perfect pace Of Pieces of Us. It is just written so damn beautifully. I was afraid to put it down for fear that I would regret finishing it way too quickly. The words are full of the kind of angst I can't help but get lost in with Jackson once again, bringing her writing to a whole other level. It's honestly an honor being able to experience her gift of storytelling.
Getting both Mack's and Izzy's POVs told the whole story. The way they separated when just 18 years old. The way they still loved each other from afar and the way they both hurt deep inside. The secrets they held from back then are revealed in a timely manner and the shock felt by Mack at what Izzy has been hiding for so long gutted me as well. I could feel every ounce of pure heartache at what Mack may have felt was his fault. That revelation continued the thoughts in his head that he would never truly be the Dragon who could slay anything in the path of his Little Bird. The notion of never being good enough still at the forefront of his mind. These deep feelings felt by both Mack and Izzy are literally dripping off of each page and I was more than happy to soak up each and every one.
What these two have been through at times felt as if they had been cheated because of simply wanting what was best for the other. Even if that meant never seeing each other ever again. But in their misguided and youthful brains, being a bit rash seemed to be the answer. Now in the present, it was painstakingly clear that both Mack and Izzy have grown. They have become more than worthy of each other's love and their journey, full of stops and starts, was finally on the right track.
I loved that Mack knew what he wanted, no matter what challenges he might be facing. Izzy was his and there was no way in hell he was ever letting her go. And I also loved that Izzy didn't make him wait too long before she let him back into her life, allowing him to be a part of her crazy world, which now included than he could have imagined.
A.L. Jackson lets this second chance romance simmer at the right temperature. Mack and Izzy have that undeniable heat that even 13 years apart can't extinguish. There is the right amount of passion, mixed impeccably with sincere emotion as they finally find their rhythm once more. This one has ALL the feels times ten and I happily got lost in every single one. There is also a bit of mystery and danger that is truly an added bonus. It gave Izzy and Mack even more reason to show why they are a caring and dedicated couple and how their pasts and past actions don't define them. They are fierce together and that was all the more reason to smile through some nail-biting moments.
With scene-stealing characters in Dillon, Benjamin and Mr. and Mrs. Lane, not to mention the continued support from Jace, Ian, Faith and Grace and their expanding families, Pieces of Us is definitely the ultimate conclusion to this incredible trilogy. I have thoroughly enjoyed every single minute and honestly can't recommend this book and series highly enough.
Pieces of Us is my favorite A.L. Jackson book to date. I have read and loved each and every one of her books, but Maxon’s story pulled at every fiber of my being. This good man who has spent his entire life feeling like he was never worthy of the love he was given and then selflessly let go, causing more heartbreak and devastation than he could have ever imagined. His life’s mission as a detective was to try and erase what bad he feels he did in the past. When the love he pushed away all those years ago walks back into his life, his world is irrevocably changed in ways he can’t fathom. I don’t want to give any spoilers away, but just know that your heart will break with sadness for what time was lost, but burst to overflowing with the love that is found when souls are reunited. This story was beautiful and wonderfully written.
Every single time I read an AL Jackson book i feel like I've had my heart ripped apart and put back together. Every. Single. Time. Gah!! They way she creates these characters and storylines is nothing short of amazing!
This is the final book of the Confessions of the Heart series and boy did she save the best for last. It is Maxon, aka Mack and Mack daddy, and Izzy's story. They were two people that were destined to be together from a very young age but were torn apart at 17. Thirteen years they lived apart, thirteen years that they still have a love that is endless and a bond that will hold them together forever. This is the story of survival and forgiveness, second chances and love that is endless. Pieces of Us will stick with me for a long, long time to come.
A.L. Jackson never disappoints in bringing her readers a punch to the gut emotional story. Her Confessions of the Heart series has taken readers on a rollercoaster ride of every emotion you can think of. Both Jace and Ian's stories tugged at the heartstrings and as I read each of those, I kept wondering what Mack's story was. Here is this rough and rugged cop who turned to marshmallow when he got around Jace and Ian's children. He's been the quintessential bachelor so far, so my mind ran wild with what Amy had in store for him.
Let me tell you, Amy brings us a very intense, emotional, heart in your throat story in Pieces of Us. This second chance romance tore my heart wide open with what Mack and Isabel have been through in their lives. Prepare yourself for experiencing all the feels in this book! One minute I was laughing, the next I was a sobbing mess!
Amy certainly knows how to write the broken hero and a heroine who is both strong and vulnerable at the same time. She left no doubt that these two people love each other intensely, but circumstances tore them apart 13 years ago. Can the love they still have help them find their way back to each other?
"There's not enough time in eternity for me to use up the love I have for you. "
Be prepared for one emotional ride! I was wrung out by the end! I totally fell in love with several of the supporting characters. Some I wanted to steal away and keep for my very own, some others I wanted to bury in the back yard... It was great to see Jace and Ian and their families scattered throughout the story, it was like a big family reunion. And if you haven't met the Jacobs brothers yet, I know you will want to go back and read their stories once you finish reading Pieces of Us.
I am sad that this story is over, but I am super excited to see what Amy has in store for us next.
This book is EVERYTHING!!! Izzy and Mack have a long and complicated relationship and while they both loved each other, there are things that kept them apart resulting in so much hurt and angst. Just when Mack thinks his life is on track, his "little bird" comes home and it's for a doozy of a reason. Oh My Heart!!!
This book is beautifully written. There's a magic about this couple that drew me in capturing my heart and letting me believe that second chances aren't always as easy as we'd like them to be. One thing is for sure though, the love between these two is still as strong as ever.....
"I got blasted with a shockwave of heat that hit the air, the intensity of it so fierce it had me sucking in a staggered breath. Two of us magnets."
While Izzy is trying to make a life back in her hometown, Mack has been busy getting away from the life he had as a child by becoming part of the police department. His friendships with Jace and Ian and their wives and families are as strong as ever and showing him that having that forever love, second chance with the love of his life, Izzy isn't outside the realm of possibility.
It's not a smooth journey for our H/h because there are forces beyond them that aren't happy Izzy is back in town. This provides the perfect segues into flashbacks where we learn how they met and their budding friendship then relationship. There's secrets that have been kept for the time that Izzy has been gone and to say it's a game changer for everyone is putting it mildly!
I was rooting for these two to get their happily ever after because she brings a lightness to his life that is sorely needed. He needs to see himself the way Izzy does and how much she loves him....
"'I have loved you since I was a little girl and you came runnin' to rescue me. I have loved you since I first saw that tender smile and had the honor of meetin' that fierce, brave heart. I loved you when I didn't really know what it meant, and I loved you even more when I grew into the fullness of it.' 'Never for a day did I stop. I love you Maxon Chambers.'"
Ms. Jackson has written a book that is stunning in its depth of heartbreak and redemption. I fell in love with Mack and Izzy and those that surround them. This story tugged at my heart and took me on their journey to finding the love they've always had but were afraid to say yes to. And the very ending left me with a huge smile on my face.
I have been extremely invested in this series each book just better and better. Getting to know all the amazing characters in the series was a gift. I thought that I knew Maxon Chambers aka Mack, but I was so wrong. There was so much more to Mack then had been revealed in the first two books. Mack was a very broken man from so many things that happened in his youth. One such thing or I should say person that happened to Mack when he was younger was Izzy his childhood friend and love of his life. She was his safe harbor to escape his home life and abusive father. But about the time that they were teenagers and Mack’s Dad was forcing him to do some of his dirty work, Mack began to think that he was not good enough for Izzy. So, he proceeded to break Izzy’s heart and she left town and a broken Mack.
Present day Izzy has moved home to live with her parents with her two boys. She is a single mother and has not always had it so easy. Mack is in the grocery store and runs face to face with none other than Izzy, talk about an uncomfortable moment. It is also so very clear that they each still have feeling for each other. Mack begins to peruse Izzy and doing this a little secret comes out. If they are even going to attempt a reconciliation, they will have to build the trust that was broken and mend all the hurt feelings that they both have. Mack will need to build a relationship with both Izzy’s son which are fantastic by the way!! There is a taste of mystery and suspense when some shady things start happening to Mack which only enhances the story. We are gifted with being able to revisit couples from the earlier books and seeing where their lives are. There were a few new characters that really stood out Izzy’s Mom and Dad her Mom was a gem!! This was such a beautiful second chance romance!
The entire confessions of the heart series has been amazing. The supporting characters touch our hearts just as much as the main characters. They all support the stories and help build up the defining characteristics we fall in love with in the H and h. Ben in this book with his sweet sweet spirit and optimism and Dillon with his uncanny ability to be both mischievous and somehow wise in the things he says, really helped build up the story and support the main characters through their journeys. Bravo on that AL Jackson because it's sometimes hard to create a support system that's as endearing as the ones you've created. Throughout the series we've seen these men torn up by life's circumstances and we've seen how they allow the sins of their past make them believe that they aren't worth happiness and joy in life but in AL Jacksons words through Mrs. Lane "whose joy is forgotten is lost and whose heart is free is found" The ghosts of the past have haunted Maxon Chambers for a long time but none more than Izzy and when she comes back into his life after years apart, he knows he can't let her go again. But, things are more than just a 2nd chance at true love, there's more at stake now, there are more hearts to win over for this HEA. I'm so happy the series ended the way it did. Mack deserved to free his heart and find joy. And so did Izzy, and they found it in each other. The little bird and big dragon who saved each other. "There's not enough time in eternity for me to use up the love I have for you" Endless love : -) Thanks for another amazing book!
I’ve been waiting for Mack’s story and Al Jackson did not disappoint. The writing is flawless and the storyline just superb!
Mack and Izzy were meant to be together but Mack had some personal issues that held him back and he did the unthinkable - he let her go so she could fly.
Izzy so heartbroken left their little town and tried to move on with her life. But fate was not having it.... ten years later Izzy returns to her hometown having no clue what was in store for her.
The struggle with this couple was real and painful. They loved each other so much and Mack thought he was doing the right thing but he never stopped loving Izzy. Izzy has a few secrets of her own and her life did not work out the way Mack thought it would. Once her secrets are revealed Mack realizes he made a huge mistake letting her go and begins to believe he is the man she always told him he could be.
There was some suspense in this story and it was just the right amount. It played well into Mack’s situation and really brought out his character.
There is a situation in this book that I was worried would be a game changer for me...but this author took it down a different route and even though it gutted me, it was flawless in its presentation. Thank you for that!
Just like the words from the Carly Simon song state "Nobody Does It Better," AL Jackson has written a beautiful, emotional, and gripping story of redemption and true love. Pieces of US is the 3rd book in the Confessions of the Heart series but can certainly be read as a stand alone. What I love the most about all 3 of these books is that even though you can read just one, it is so heartwarming to be able to follow up with updates on the characters in the other books. You first meet Mack in book one and you know right away that he is a loyal friend who would do anything for those he loves but you don't really know the whole back story until you get to his book, Pieces of Us. Here you truly learn just how loyal and lovable he is and his devotion to protecting those he loves the most. Mack and Izzy's story is sweet, sad, beautiful and happy and hopeful all at the same time. AL Jackson writes the cutest children's characters and the sexiest and strongest adult characters that have you cheering them on the entire story. I am definitely a huge AL Jackson fan but honestly how can you not be when her stories are all just so dang good. If you haven't read her work then you really need to.
