It's True These Trays Are Odor Free! Worth the Cost!

LOVE this product!!!
These refills are expensive, roughly $15 a pop. With that said, we have two cats and just moved from a large home into a townhouse and I love this product. With our home, we were able to keep the litter box in our garage since we installed a kitty door but that's not possible in the townhouse. We've been using these litter tray refills for 5 weeks. We set up the ScoopFree litter box with a separately purchased scrap rug to collect any loose blue litter crystals from the litter tray. The refill trays themselves are no brainers to set up - simply lift the cat box housing (it's clean...), take the lid included with the new refill tray and use it to cover the old tray (absolutely no smell!) and then put the new tray in the same spot as the old tray and lower the housing in place. (I use heavy duty tape to tape the lid onto the old tray so that when I throw it into the garbage dumpster the litter doesn't spill all over.) One of these trays last us about 8 days (with 2 cats). They can use the box 35 times (counter on litter box) before we notice ANY odor at all. I hate litter boxes and this is a great product!!! By the way, I purchased my ScoopFree Litter Box for $200.00 at my local, large chain pet store then found it online at Amazon for under $100.00.

I have been ordering this product since last year. Last year it was amazinggggggggg. This year I am not sure what is going on but the last 3 pack I purchased I used them all within in a month!!! I never had to do that before! I ordered them again and tried to remove the lining to see if that would work and nope. 3 trays in a little over a MONTH!!! The point of buying such a high priced cat litter system is to reduce the need to change the crystals so often. I don't know what they are using but these crystals can't be the same. And the lining on the box sucks.

We have 2 cats in a small apartment. I would say 5 stars for the litter box. 5 stars for the blue litter. 2 stars for the Clear.
The litter box works perfectly. The litter box always appears clear & clean to me. My cats had no problems with it, even from the start.
However, from using it, I learned that the only way this box is cost effective is to use the perfumed/dyed crystals. Basically, this is because the system clears the litter box wonderfully, but since the litter doesn't clump, it won't clear the cat pee away, so unless you get the perfume/dyed crystals, you're going to smell the litter box very quickly.
Basically, I started with the blue crystals that came with the litter box. Everything worked great. The trap was actually full before the crystals even started to smell. I just used the litter scoop to clean it out and used the crystals for the full recommended window for 2 cats. I figured getting 1 3-pack a month would be more than enough.
However, I prefer dye free products, so when I started a monthly subscription for my refill, I chose the 3-pack in Clear. Bad decision. The apartment reeked of cat pee in less than a week, and the crystals were all already yellow/brown. I had to use febreeze in the litter room just to stretch the 3 pack over the month until my next subscription delivery (which I changed back to the blue crystals). If I were to continue to use the clear, I would need to go through at least 4 trays a month, which would be about $60 a month for litter?? No way.
To summarize, this system is awesome, especially compared to much higher costing auto-litter boxes, but in a multi-cat household, you're probably going to need the perfumed crystals to make it worth it.

Pros and Cons listed below for the blue (non dye-free) crystals, but I also tried the dye-free option and wish it was listed as a separate product. I'd give the dye-free 1 star. Not because it's dye free, but the box that actually holds the litter is totally different. It uses velcro to secure the flap/lid to the box. This design somehow ripped off every time I went to change it out, sending litter and all the other kitten treats found in litter everywhere. The whole design just seemed flimsy. Strongly reccommend sticking with the blue version.
For the blue version,
Pros:
• Very easy to chang out. Just be sure to save the top part as it will be your lid when it's time to throw out your old trays.
• The box's plastic coating is great for completely holding in #1, #2, and anything in between.
• Crystals do an okay job at capturing and eliminating smells. Of the varieties, I does best with urine. Poo can get a bit pungent if it sits on top.
• Automatic "flushing" is amazing. Whatever the crystals can't absorb, the lid does a good job at containing smells (at least for the blue crystal version). Wish I could set the delay time though. It seems to be about 15 minutes after the cat leaves the box. Fortunately, there is a button you can push to manually flush.
Cons:
• Expensive. With 2 cats, I easily go through 1 set of 3 litter boxes per month. These are basically a $40/month subscription fee for me. I reccommend subscribing on Amazon. Every little bit of savings helps. Just keep an eye out for potential price increases.
Conclusion:
Don't buy the dye-free version until they fix the boxes. I'm all for reducing excess materials, but the construction is just flimsy. The blue crystal boxes are excellent, but a bit pricey. If you have the money and live in a smaller space, I highly reccommend these. You're senses will thank you.

I have had several cats, over the years, and always hated (and as a result neglected) cleaning the litterbox. Until NOW!
Sure, there are any number of less expensive ways to collect and discard cat waste. Could not be simpler to switch out the trays. It took about 3 weeks for my well-fed-year-old male cat to "use" up one tray. The crystals had started to look yellow and the collection box was full to the point that small particles weren't fully cleared. However, there was no odor even when I removed the tray for replacement.
I used "Yesterdays News" litter made from recycled newspaper previously and like it because there was no dust or odor. The crystals seem to be an improvement.
UPDATE: After using this for 3 months I have become a bit more conscientious about cleaning "weekly" and as a result the crystals last longer. I also purchased the bags of crystals, which are less expensive than the complete replacement trays. I saved one of the original trays and have reused it three or four time without any negative effects. I don't know about my cat but I know I am spoiled and would have a difficult time going back to an open littler box and scooping daily. Six Stars!

I have been using the self-cleaning litter box for over a year and have always been happy with the litter. Have 2 cats and only had to change the box once/week (which I think is pretty good for 2 cats). However, lately something has changed with the litter trays and blue litter. It no longer absorbs the cat urine like it used to. The litter box smells bad after 3-4 days!!! What’s happened to the litter that makes it not absorbent as it used to be?? Don’t know if other users are finding this to be a problem but I can’t afford to change the tray every 4-5 days at $15/tray. I hope that the mfg. makes some improvements soon.

I hated this cat litter! It claims that it absorbs smells, that total BS. I will put that I have a kitten who does pee more than usual but still after changing the litter every week the smell was awful! Never again buying this crystal stuff. Also the pee turns to some disgusting slush.

These are packaged differently than pictured and differently than the Blue flavor (not sure if this is overall new packaging that will be used ove time. Instead of being able to use the top of the box to seal up before discarding, these come with a perfectly sized garbage bag to put the used container in. I’m not sure if I like it more yet. It means if you get down to the last tray - or, for example switc back to the other style trays - you’ll be stuck without a great way to dispose of them, having to use a regular trash bag. This is probably more environmentally friendly - a bit less waste - but I’m not sure its an improvement. As for white crystals vs blue - they both seem to work fine.

This specific product: as described, better price than in stores.
This whole system: terrible. I threw it out months ago and I’m STILL angry at how dumb it is. Maybe my two cats pee a lot more than average or something but these stupid things barely make a week, let alone the multiple weeks promised. That makes for an awful expensive (and stinky) system. And changing this out is much worse than scooping out a litter box - they say to simply put the lid on the box and you’re done, but seriously? The lid fits more loosely than a shoe-box, so don’t tip the tray! Have to duct tape it down or will wind up with just loose litter/waste all over your trash bin (nasty public health hazard).
Don’t waste your money on this system.

Works great! Really absorbs urine and after a few moments keeps the poo smell down. Super impressed! Using it with coordinated automatic litter box and I couldn’t be happier! I only can sing praises about these products!!!I love that it comes with a lid so when it’s done I can pop the lid on and carry it to the outside trash. Less contact the better! Little to no dust! So impressed! I get it on automatic shipment so my kitten never had a dirty box. Not that she seems to care. She almost seems sad when I’m taking away her old box...

After a month of using the blue litter, I realized that my cat's skin rash was ann allergic reaction. I still had 2 refills left. When I called petsafe, a kind, knowledgeable woman actually answered the phone (imagine that)! In the amount of time I would have been navigating a phone menu with other companies, she had arranged an exchange for me! These people really care about pets, they stand by their ingenious product, and they don't waste your time. With 1 cat, I only touch the box once a week to clear out the solids & make it last as long as possible. I change the box every 5 weeks (which is so easy) & there has never been an odor!

I like it enough to subscribe this product regularly, but I wish they don't tape the three box together. The tapes are flimsy and it break off when I try to peal it off the box, and it is totally annoying having to deal with the bits and pieces.
I also wish that they coat or seal the bottom with water resistant material. My cat's often ends up running outside of the litter box (which is a design from by the tray maker, though) and the tray gets soaked as it is made of cardboard.
