When I first purchased the CD sets, I believed the main value of the CD set is on the concerto part. My initial feeling about the sonata part of Lang Lang’s Mozart was lukewarm. Recently when I was traveling, I listened the sonata parts multiple time on my cell phone, and I grew to love Lang Lang’s interpretation of these sonatas. I feel that as times go by people will be more appreciative of Lang Lang’s interpretation of these sonatas, just people became more appreciative of Lang Lang’s interpretation of Rachmaninoff piano concertos as times went by.
I really enjoyed this album. Lang Lang seemed a little more calm than many of his other work I have listened to, and it fit the tone of the chosen music quite well. I wish he would do all of Mozart's keyboard work, as I really enjoyed his take and would love to have a complete set.
Recently Deutsche Welle TV in the cable run a program on how this album was recorded, with Lang Lang in the piano and Niklaus Harnoncourt conducting Vienna's symphony orchestra. That program may be seen in You Tube (type: Lang Lang Harnoncourt); it prompted me to buy this CD and now I can listen to it with some knowledge of the details. Very pleased.
